Materials

• Light Pink worsted weight yarn
• Bright Magenta/Dark Pink worsted weight yarn

Instructions

Head (in Light Pink):

• Rnd 1: Start with a magic ring and work 6 sc into it. (6 sts)
• Rnd 2: Work 2 sc in each st around. (12 sts)
• Rnd 3: *1 sc, 1 inc* repeat around. (18 sts)
• Rnd 4: *2 sc, 1 inc* repeat around. (24 sts)
• Rnd 5: *3 sc, 1 inc* repeat around. (30 sts)
• Rnd 6: *4 sc, 1 inc* repeat around. (36 sts)
• Rnd 7: *5 sc, 1 inc* repeat around. (42 sts)
• Rnd 8: *6 sc, 1 inc* repeat around. (48 sts)
• Rnds 9-18: Sc in each st around. (48 sts)

Note: Insert safety eyes between rounds 14 and 15, leaving about 10 stitches of space between them.

Frilly Gills (Make 6 total – 3 in Light Pink, 3 in Dark Pink):

For each gill: Chain 8. Row 1: In the second chain from the hook, work 1 sc. Then, *chain 3, slip stitch into the same stitch, work 1 sc in the next stitch* repeating this sequence to the end of the chain to create fluffy, looped ruffles. Fasten off. Sandwich one Dark Pink gill and one Light Pink gill together for each of the three side-gills, sewing them securely to each side of the head.

Limbs (Make 4 in Light Pink):

• Rnd 1: Start 6 sc in a magic ring. (6 sts)
• Rnds 2-6: Sc in each st around. (6 sts)
• Toes Row: *Chain 2, slip stitch in the next stitch* repeat 3 times across the flattened end of the limb to form tiny toes. Fasten off, leaving a long tail to sew to the lower body.

Tail Fin (in Light Pink):

Chain 21. Row 1: Work 1 sc in the second chain from the hook and in each chain across. (20 sts). Turn. Row 2: Chain 1, work 3 dc in each of the first 5 stitches, then 3 hdc in each of the next 5 stitches, and sc in the remaining 10 stitches to form a beautifully tapered, wavy fin. Fasten off, leaving a long tail to sew along the center back and tail.

Assembly & Details:

Sew the head securely to the body. Attach the stacked, ruffled gills to both sides of the head. Position and sew the front and back legs to the lower body. Sew the wavy tail fin along the middle of the back. Using dark brown embroidery floss, stitch a wide, happy curved smile between the eyes and add two small, slanted eyebrows above each eye. Complete the look by brushing a small amount of pink cosmetic blush or stitching pink yarn just below the eyes to create adorable rosy cheeks.
