Rounds 6-8: sc around (30)

Switch to Black yarn:

Rounds 9-10: sc around (30)

Switch to Yellow yarn:

Wings (Make 2):

Using White yarn:

Green Leaves Base:

Using Green yarn:

Round 5: (3 sc, inc) * 6 (30)

Now we will work the leaf shapes: *Ch 1, 1 sc, 1 hdc, 2 dc in next st, 2 tr in next st, 2 dc in next st, 1 hdc, 1 sc, sl st. Repeat from * 4 more times to create 5 distinct leaves pointing outwards. Fasten off.

Variegated Purple Flower Petals:

Using Purple/Blue Variegated yarn:

Create a base cup by repeating Rounds 1-5 of the Green Leaves Base to get 30 stitches. Do not fasten off.

To make the large overlapping petals, work in the front loops only of the base circle: *sc, hdc, 3 dc in next st, 3 tr in next st, 3 dc in next st, hdc, sc, sl st. Repeat 4 more times to complete the outer layer of petals. For an inner nested layer, join yarn to the back loops of the base circle and repeat the petal sequence. Fasten off, leaving a sewing tail.

Assembly:

1. Sew the white wings to the top center of the bee’s back, positioning them on the first black stripe segment.

2. Use black embroidery floss to stitch closed curved sleeping eyes and a small smile on the yellow head of the bee.

3. Position the sleepy bee comfortably nestled inside the center of the purple flower blossom. Secure it in place with a few stitches.

4. Sew the entire flower cup onto the center of the green leaf base.
