Materials

• Sport weight cotton yarn (Yellow, Black, Brown, Green, Orange, Blue, Pink, and White)
• 2.5 mm crochet hook
• 5 mm safety eyes for the bee
• Fiberfill stuffing
• Yarn needle and scissors
• Black embroidery floss

• MR: Magic Ring
• ch: chain
• sc: single crochet
• inc: increase (2 sc in one stitch)
• dec: decrease (sc 2 together)
• sl st: slip stitch
• st: stitch

Instructions

1. The Tiny Bee:

Using Yellow yarn:

• Rnd 1: Start 6 sc in a MR (6)
• Rnd 2: inc in each st around (12)
• Rnd 3: [sc, inc] x 6 (18)
• Switch to Black yarn:
• Rnd 4: sc around (18)
• Switch to Yellow yarn:
• Rnd 5: sc around (18)
• Switch to Black yarn:
• Rnd 6: sc around (18)
• Switch to Yellow yarn:
• Rnd 7: [sc, dec] x 6 (12)
• Attach 5mm safety eyes between rounds 2 and 3, and sew a tiny smile with black thread. Lightly stuff the bee.
• Rnd 8: dec x 6 (6)
• Fasten off, weave in ends.

Bee Wings (Make 2):

• Using White yarn, in a MR: ch 2, 3 dc, ch 2, sl st. Pull tight and sew to the top of the bee’s back.

2. The Flower Hive:

Using Yellow yarn:

• Rnd 1: Start 6 sc in a MR (6)
• Rnd 2: inc in each st around (12)
• Rnd 3: [sc, inc] x 6 (18)
• Rnd 4: [2 sc, inc] x 6 (24)
• Rnd 5: [3 sc, inc] x 6 (30)
• Rnd 6-8: sc around (30)
• Now we will create the opening door by working in rows:
• Row 9-13: ch 1, turn, sc in 22 sts, leaving 8 sts unworked for the opening (22)
• Rnd 14: ch 1, turn, sc in 22 sts, then ch 8 to bridge the gap and rejoin to work in rounds (30)
• Rnd 15: [3 sc, dec] x 6 (24)
• Rnd 16: [2 sc, dec] x 6 (18)
• Rnd 17: [sc, dec] x 6 (12)
• Rnd 18: dec x 6 (6)
• Fasten off and weave in ends.

3. The Cap & Stem:

Using Brown yarn:

• Rnd 1: Start 6 sc in a MR (6)
• Rnd 2: inc in each st around (12)
• Rnd 3: [sc, inc] x 6 (18)
• Rnd 4: [2 sc, inc] x 6 (24)
• Rnd 5: [3 sc, inc] x 6 (30)
• Fasten off, leaving a long tail to sew onto the top of the yellow hive.

Using Green yarn (Stem):

• Join green yarn to the top of the brown cap, ch 12.
• Sl st in second ch from hook and next 3 chs to form a small leaf, ch 8, then sl st back down the stem to the center cap. Fasten off.

4. The Colorful Petals (Make 4 – Pink, Blue, Green, Orange):

• Ch 8, starting in 2nd ch from hook: sc, hdc, 3 dc, hdc, 3 sc in last st. Working along the opposite side of the chain: hdc, 3 dc, hdc, sc. Sl st to join. Fasten off, leaving a tail.
• Sew the petals evenly around the brown cap, overlapping them slightly as shown in the photo.
