Materials

• Lace weight cotton yarn or embroidery floss in white, light blue, bright yellow, and turquoise

Instructions

Step 1: The Tiny Budgie

Using bright yellow yarn, start with a Magic Ring.

Round 1: 6 sc in MR (6)

Switch to turquoise yarn for the body.

Round 4: (2 sc, inc) x 3 (12)

Round 5-6: sc around (12)

Fasten off, stuff lightly, and sew the bottom closed. Embroider a tiny pink beak on the yellow face and sew on the black seed beads for the eyes. Add small black stitches on the wings for feather details.

Step 2: The Birdcage Base

Using light blue yarn.

Round 2: inc in each st (12)

Switch to white yarn.

Step 3: The Birdcage Dome & Hanging Loop

Using white yarn.

Round 1: 6 sc in MR (6)

Round 2: inc in each st (12)

Round 3: (sc, inc) x 6 (18)

Round 4: (2 sc, inc) x 6 (24)

Round 5: (3 sc, inc) x 6 (30)

Round 6-7: sc around (30)

Do not fasten off. Chain 12 to create the hanging loop, and slip stitch back into the center of the dome. Secure and wrap the loop base with light blue yarn for a decorative finish.

Step 4: Assembly & Vertical Bars

Cut a toothpick to fit the inner diameter of the cage base. Glue the tiny budgie onto the middle of the toothpick perch.

Insert the perch inside the bottom cage base, securing the ends with glue or tiny stitches.

To join the dome and base, attach white yarn to the dome edge. Crochet 6 vertical bars spaced evenly around the cage. For each bar: chain 12, slip stitch to the corresponding stitch on the cage base, slip stitch back up the chain, and join to the dome. Repeat around the cage, leaving one side open enough to clearly display the budgie.

Attach the keychain ring to the top light blue hanging loop.
