Materials

• Light blue sport weight yarn
• White sport weight yarn
• Yellow sport weight yarn
• Dark blue embroidery thread

• Red, beige, and light blue thread scraps (for passenger details)

Instructions

Main Dolphin Body:

Using light blue yarn, work in continuous rounds.

• Round 1: 6 sc in MR (6)
• Round 2: [sc, inc] x 3 (9)
• Round 3: [2 sc, inc] x 3 (12)
• Round 4: [3 sc, inc] x 3 (15)
• Round 5: [4 sc, inc] x 3 (18)
• Round 6: [5 sc, inc] x 3 (21)
• Rounds 7-16: sc in each st around (21)
• Round 17: [5 sc, dec] x 3 (18)
• Round 18: [4 sc, dec] x 3 (15)
• Round 19: [3 sc, dec] x 3 (12)
• Start stuffing firmly with fiberfill here.
• Round 20: [2 sc, dec] x 3 (9)

• Fasten off, weaving in ends. Attach 6mm safety eyes between rounds 5 and 6 on both sides.

Underbelly (White Base):

Using white yarn, work in rows to make a flat oval shape that matches the bottom of the dolphin.

• Row 1: Ch 8. Starting in 2nd ch from hook, sc 6, 3 sc in the last ch. Turn to work on opposite side of ch: sc 5, inc in last st. (16)
• Row 2: inc, sc 5, inc x 3, sc 5, inc x 2 (22)
• Row 3: sc 1, inc, sc 6, inc, [sc 1, inc] x 2, sc 6, inc, sc 1 (27)
• Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing to the bottom of the blue body.

Yellow Taxi Cabin:

Using yellow yarn, work in rows to form a small rectangular box shape.

• Row 1: Ch 11, starting in 2nd ch, sc 10. Ch 1, turn. (10)
• Rows 2-5: sc in each st across. Ch 1, turn.
• Row 6 (Sides): sc around all four edges of the rectangle to create a small rim. Fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing.

Dorsal Fin & Side Flippers:

Using light blue yarn (make 1 dorsal fin, 2 flippers):

• Round 1: 4 sc in MR (4)
• Round 2: [sc, inc] x 2 (6)
• Round 3: [2 sc, inc] x 2 (8)
• Round 4: [3 sc, inc] x 2 (10)
• Fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing.

Wheels (Make 4):

Using dark blue yarn/thread:

• Round 1: 5 sc in MR. Join with sl st to first sc. Fasten off.

Assembly & Detailed Embroidery:

• Sew the white underbelly to the bottom of the blue dolphin body, stuffing lightly before closing completely.
• Sew the yellow taxi cabin to the middle top of the dolphin’s back.
• Using black embroidery thread, embroider two rectangular windows on each side of the yellow cabin.
• Using beige, red, and blue thread, embroider tiny circular heads and shirts inside the windows to represent the driver and passengers.
• Sew the dorsal fin directly behind the yellow cabin.
• Sew the two side flippers to the lower sides of the dolphin.
• Sew the four dark blue wheels to the underside of the white belly.
• Using dark blue embroidery thread, stitch the words “WATER TAXI” and “NYC” on both sides of the blue body. Add small waves below the text.
• Using black thread, stitch a smiling mouth line extending from the snout.
• Secure the keychain ring firmly to the top of the dorsal fin.
