Materials

• Sport weight cotton yarn in Beige (face, body, hat, paws)
• Sport weight cotton yarn in Brown and Dark Brown (for the quills)
• Sport weight cotton yarn in Blue (overalls)
• Small amount of Pink yarn (nose and ear detail)
• 2.5 mm crochet hook
• 6mm safety eyes
• Polyester fiberfill stuffing

Instructions

Head and Body:

Using Beige yarn, start with the muzzle.

Round 1: 4 sc in MR (4)

Insert safety eyes between Rounds 5 and 6, leaving about 6 stitches between them.

Change to Brown yarn for the quills. For the back of the body, we will use the Loop Stitch (lp st) to simulate the spikes, while keeping the tummy area in standard single crochet.

Stuff the head and body firmly with fiberfill.

Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Add a thin strip of brown yarn around the base of the hat as a decorative band.

Ears (Make 2):

Using Beige yarn, 5 sc in MR. Do not join. Fasten off, leaving a tail. Use pink yarn to embroider a small pink inner ear detail before sewing them to the sides of the head.

Arms (Make 2):

Fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing.

Overalls Apron:

Using Blue yarn:

Row 1: Ch 11, starting in the second ch from hook, 10 sc, turn.

Rows 2-6: 10 sc, turn.

To create the straps, chain 12 from the top corners of the apron piece, cross them over the back, and sew them to the lower corners. Sew a small denim fabric pocket or embroider a small square onto the front center.

Assembly:

Sew the ears to the sides of the head just behind the eyes. Embroider a small pink nose on the tip of the muzzle. Sew the hat securely to the top of the head. Position the overalls on the body and sew in place. Attach the arms to the sides of the body, curving them forward so they can hold your miniature gardening spade and tiny potted plant. Weave in all loose ends.
