Materials

• Sport weight cotton yarn in Blue, Yellow, Red, Green, Brown, Beige, and Light Blue
• 2.0 mm crochet hook
• Two 4mm safety eyes
• Polyester fiberfill stuffing
• Black embroidery thread for the nose
• Keychain ring with chain
• Yarn needle and scissors

Instructions

Hot Air Balloon:

Using Blue, Yellow, Red, and Green yarn. The balloon is worked in rounds, changing colors every 1/4 of the round to create 4 vertical striped segments.

• Rnd 1: 8 sc in MR (2 sc in each of the 4 colors) [8]
• Rnd 2: inc in each stitch around (4 sc of each color) [16]
• Rnd 3: (1 sc, inc) repeat around (6 sc of each color) [24]
• Rnd 4: (2 sc, inc) repeat around (8 sc of each color) [32]
• Rnds 5-12: sc around keeping the color blocks aligned [32]
• Rnd 13: (2 sc, dec) repeat around [24]
• Rnd 14: (1 sc, dec) repeat around [16]
• Stuff the balloon firmly with fiberfill.
• Rnd 15: dec around [8]
• Fasten off, weave in ends, and close the opening.

Wavy Trim:

Using Light Blue (or matching colors) yarn, join with a slip stitch to the middle of the balloon where the colors change.

• Step: *Skip 1 stitch, 5 dc in the next stitch, skip 1 stitch, sl st* repeat around the entire balloon center to create the decorative wave. Fasten off and weave in ends.

Basket:

Using Beige yarn.

• Rnd 1: 6 sc in MR [6]
• Rnd 2: inc in each stitch around [12]
• Rnd 3: (1 sc, inc) repeat around [18]
• Rnd 4: Working in BLO, sc around [18]
• Rnds 5-8: sc around [18]
• Rnd 9: Switch to Brown yarn. sc around [18]
• Fasten off, leaving a long tail for assembly.

Little Bear Head:

Using Brown yarn.

• Rnd 1: 6 sc in MR [6]
• Rnd 2: inc in each stitch around [12]
• Rnd 3: (1 sc, inc) repeat around [18]
• Rnds 4-7: sc around [18]
• Insert safety eyes between rounds 5 and 6, about 4 stitches apart.
• Rnd 8: (1 sc, dec) repeat around [12]
• Stuff firmly with fiberfill.
• Rnd 9: dec around [6]
• Fasten off and sew shut.

Bear Details & assembly:

• Muzzle: With Beige yarn, make 6 sc in a MR, sl st to join, and sew onto the head between the eyes. Embroider a tiny nose and mouth with black embroidery thread.
• Ears (Make 2): With Brown yarn, make 4 sc in a MR. Do not close completely into a circle; sew onto the top of the head.
• Paws (Make 2): With Brown yarn, make 5 sc in a MR. Sew them onto the basket rim.
• Assembly: Sew the bear head inside the basket. Use thin brown thread/yarn strands to connect the basket rim to the base of the hot air balloon. Attach a keychain loop securely to the top of the balloon.
