Materials

• Sport weight cotton yarn in Yellow, Dark Brown, and Light Orange
• 2.0 mm crochet hook
• 4 mm safety eyes
• Polyester fiberfill stuffing
• Keychain ring with chain
• Yarn needle and scissors

Instructions

Chick Body (in Yellow):

• Rnd 1: 6 sc in MR (6)
• Rnd 2: inc in each st around (12)
• Rnd 3: (sc, inc) x 6 (18)
• Rnd 4-7: sc around (18)
• Insert safety eyes between Rnds 4 and 5, about 3 sts apart. Stuff lightly with fiberfill.
• Rnd 8: (sc, dec) x 6 (12)
• Rnd 9: dec around (6). Fasten off and weave in ends.

Wings (Make 2, in Yellow):

• Ch 4, sl st in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next, hdc in last. Fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing.

Sunflower Center (Make 2 disks in Dark Brown):

• Rnd 1: 6 sc in MR (6)
• Rnd 2: inc in each st around (12)
• Rnd 3: (sc, inc) x 6 (18)
• Rnd 4: (2 sc, inc) x 6 (24)
• Rnd 5: (3 sc, inc) x 6 (30). Fasten off on the first disk. On the second disk, do not cut yarn; place disks wrong sides together and join with a row of sc around to join. Slip stitch to close.

Sunflower Petals (in Yellow):

• Join yellow yarn to any stitch on the joined edge of the brown circle.
• *Ch 3, dc in same st, tr, ch 2, sl st in top of tr (picot), dc in next st, ch 3, sl st in next st. Repeat from * around to create 10 petals. Fasten off and weave in ends.

Assembly:

• Embroider a small orange beak between the chick’s eyes.
• Sew the wings to the sides of the chick’s body.
• Sew the chick securely onto the center of the brown sunflower.
• Attach the keychain ring to the top petal of the sunflower.
