Crochet Pattern: Adorable Mini Crochet Baby Onesie Keychain Pattern

Materials

• Sport weight yarn (Category 2) in White and Baby Blue
• 2.0 mm crochet hook
• 3 mini white plastic buttons (approx. 4mm)
• Sewing needle and white thread
• Keychain ring with link chain
• Yarn needle and scissors
• A small amount of polyester fiberfill (optional, for shaping)

Abbreviations

• ch – chain
• sc – single crochet
• inc – increase (2 single crochet in one stitch)
• dec – decrease (single crochet 2 stitches together)
• sl st – slip stitch
• st(s) – stitch(es)
• BLO – back loops only

Instructions

Note: Work in continuous rounds unless specified otherwise. Change colors every 2 rows to create the striped pattern, carrying the yarn up the inside of the work.

Onesie Body (Top-Down):

Using White yarn, chain 16. Join to the first chain with a slip stitch to form a ring, making sure not to twist the chain.

Round 1: Ch 1, sc in each ch around, join with sl st to first sc (16 sts).

Round 2: Ch 1, *sc in next 3 sts, inc in next st; repeat from * around, join with sl st (20 sts).

Round 3: Change to Baby Blue. Ch 1, *sc in next 4 sts, inc in next st; repeat from * around, join with sl st (24 sts).

Round 4 (Sleeve Division): Change to White. Ch 1, sc in next 4 sts, skip next 4 sts (for first sleeve), sc in next 8 sts, skip next 4 sts (for second sleeve), sc in next 4 sts, join with sl st (16 sts).

Rounds 5-6: Sc in each st around (16 sts).

Rounds 7-8: Change to Baby Blue. Sc in each st around (16 sts).

Rounds 9-10: Change to White. Sc in each st around (16 sts).

Rounds 11-12: Change to Baby Blue. Sc in each st around (16 sts).

Rounds 13-14: Change to White. Sc in each st around (16 sts).

Crotch Flap:

We will now work in rows across the center stitches to close the bottom of the onesie. Flatten the piece to align the front and back.

Row 15: Sl st to reach the center back 4 stitches. Ch 1, sc in these 4 sts, turn (4 sts).

Row 16: Ch 1, dec, dec, turn (2 sts).

Row 17: Ch 1, sc in both sts. Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing to the front.

Sleeves (Make 2):

Attach Baby Blue yarn to the skipped sleeve opening stitches from Round 4.

Round 1: Sc 6 sts evenly around the armhole opening. Join with sl st.

Round 2: Change to White. Sc in each st around. Join with sl st.

Round 3: Change to Baby Blue. Sl st in each st around. Fasten off and weave in ends.

Leg Edging:

Attach Baby Blue yarn to one of the leg openings.

Round 1: Sc evenly around the leg opening and the edges of the crotch flap. Sl st to join. Fasten off and repeat for the second leg opening.

Finishing and Details:

Neckline Ribbing: Attach Baby Blue yarn to the starting chain collar. Sl st in each chain stitch around to create a clean, blue neckline border. Fasten off.

Button Placket: With White yarn, join at the front center of the collar. Ch 1, work 5 sc down the front center of the chest to create a mock button placket. Fasten off.

Using a sewing needle and white thread, sew 3 mini white buttons onto the white placket.

Securely attach the keychain ring to the top shoulder or collar of the onesie. Lightly stuff the bodysuit with a tiny amount of fiberfill to help it hold its shape, then sew the crotch flap closed to secure the bottom.
