Materials

• Fingering weight yarn in Maroon, Black, and Light Brown
• Scraps of red and yellow yarn for the basket treats
• 2.0 mm crochet hook

• Red and white gingham fabric scrap
• Small wooden toothpick and cardstock (for sign)

Head (Maroon Yarn):

Rnd 1: 6 sc in MR (6)

Rnd 2: inc in each st around (12)

Rnd 6-12: sc in each st around (30)

Insert safety eyes between Rnds 9 and 10, about 6 sts apart. Embroider a small smile between the eyes with black embroidery floss.

Stuff the head firmly with fiberfill.

Antennae (Make 2 – Dark Brown or Maroon):

Ch 6. Sl st in second ch from hook and next 4 chs. Fasten off, leaving a tail. Tie a small double knot at the tip to create the antenna bulb, then sew to the top of the head.

Limbs (Make 4 – Maroon):

Ch 10. Sl st in second ch from hook and in each remaining ch. Fasten off, leaving a tail to sew to the sides and bottom of the body.

Picnic Basket (Light Brown):

Rnd 5-7: sc in each st around (18). Fasten off.

Handle: Ch 12, sew ends to opposite sides of the basket. Stuff with a tiny scrap of gingham fabric and crocheted red/yellow spheres to represent fruit.

Assembly & Finishing:

Sew the head to the body. Attach antennae to the top of the head and the keychain loop. Sew the arms and legs to the body. Cut a small piece of gingham fabric to wrap around the middle as an apron. Craft a tiny Picnic Organizer sign using cardstock glued to a toothpick, and secure both the basket and the sign to the ant’s hands.
