Crochet Pattern: Austrian Folk Edelweiss Crochet Crop Top Pattern

Materials

• Sport weight cotton yarn in White (approx. 200g), Red (approx. 150g), Olive Green (approx. 30g), and Yellow (approx. 10g)
• US C/2 (2.75mm) crochet hook (or size needed to obtain gauge)
• Tapestry needle for embroidery and assembly

Instructions

Front Central Motif: Start with Red yarn. Ch 4, join with sl st to form a ring. Work 8 sc in ring. Continue working in rounds, increasing to form a square shape using ch-2 corners, until the square measures approx. 5×5 inches. Fasten off. With White yarn, use surface slip stitching to embroider the decorative swirls in the four corners as shown in the image.

Edelweiss Applique (Make 3): With Yellow yarn, make a magic ring and work 6 sc. Change to White yarn. *Ch 5, sl st in second ch from hook, hdc in next ch, dc in next 2 ch, sl st into next sc of the yellow center. Repeat from * to create 6 pointy petals. Fasten off. For the leaves, use Green yarn to chain 8, work sc, hdc, dc, tr, dc, hdc, sc along both sides of the chain to create leaf shapes. Sew flowers and leaves onto the center of the red square.

Side and Upper Panels: Join White yarn to the side of the red square. Work in a mesh pattern: *dc, ch 1, skip 1 st* across to build the side panels, shaping for the armholes and bust. Repeat on the other side. Join White yarn to the top of the red square and work double crochet rows, leaving a central opening for the round neckline.

Lower Text Band: Join Red yarn to the bottom of the front assembly. Work 12 rows of sc to create a solid red band. Fasten off. Use White yarn and a tapestry needle to embroider the words ‘ÖSTERREICH’ on the top row and ‘AUSTRIA’ on the lower row using a neat duplicate stitch or satin stitch. Add mini coat-of-arms details on either side if desired.

Assembly and Borders: Sew the front and back panels together at the shoulders and sides. For the bottom hem, join Red yarn and work a scallop stitch: *5 dc in one st, skip 2 sts, sl st in next st, skip 2 sts* repeat around. For the neckline and armholes, work alternating rounds of Red and White sc to create the sporty striped border.
