Materials

• Worsted weight yarn in: Warm Tan/Brown (approx. 250 yds for bag body), Rich Berry Pink (approx. 50 yds for flower), Soft Blush Pink (approx. 30 yds for flower), Dark Coffee Brown (approx. 10 yds for flower center), Forest Green (approx. 40 yds for leaves, strap, tassels), Lime Green (approx. 30 yds for leaves, strap, tassels)

Instructions

Gauge: 16 hdc x 12 rows = 4″ x 4″ (10cm x 10cm) with 4.0mm hook, or adjust hook size to achieve desired fabric density.

Bag Panels (Make 2 – Warm Tan/Brown yarn)

• Ch 37.
• Row 1: Hdc in 3rd ch from hook and in each ch across. (35 hdc)
• Row 2-30: Ch 2 (does not count as st), turn, hdc in each st across. (35 hdc)
• FO, leaving a long tail on one panel for seaming.

Bag Edging/Joining

• Place the two panels together, wrong sides facing. Using the long tail from one panel, or a new length of Warm Tan/Brown yarn, and working around the edges, join the panels by sc through both layers along the bottom and side edges.
• For the top opening, work 2 rounds of sc evenly around the opening of the bag.

Layered Flower (Start with Dark Coffee Brown yarn)

• Center (Dark Coffee Brown):
  • Rnd 1: Make a magic ring, ch 1, 6 sc into ring. Join with sl st to first sc. (6 sc)
  • FO.
• First Petal Layer (Soft Blush Pink yarn):
  • Rnd 2: Join Soft Blush Pink yarn to any sc of the previous rnd. Ch 2, (dc, ch 1, dc) in same st. (dc, ch 1, dc) in next st and each st around. Join with sl st to top of first dc. (12 dc, 6 ch-1 spaces)
  • FO.
• Second Petal Layer (Rich Berry Pink yarn):
  • Rnd 3: Join Rich Berry Pink yarn to any ch-1 space of the previous rnd. Ch 2, (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in same ch-1 space. Repeat (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in each ch-1 space around. Join with sl st to top of first dc. (24 dc, 6 ch-1 spaces)

• Third Petal Layer (Rich Berry Pink yarn):
  • Rnd 4: Join Rich Berry Pink yarn to any ch-1 space of the previous rnd. Ch 3, (3 tr, ch 1, 3 tr) in same ch-1 space. Repeat (3 tr, ch 1, 3 tr) in each ch-1 space around. Join with sl st to top of first tr. (36 tr, 6 ch-1 spaces)
  • FO, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Crochet Leaves (Make 6-8, alternating Forest Green and Lime Green yarn)

• Ch 8.
• Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc in next ch, dc in next 3 ch, hdc in next ch, sc in last ch. Ch 2, turn and work down the other side of the starting chain: Sc in first st, hdc in next st, dc in next 3 sts, hdc in next st, sc in last st. Join with sl st to first sc.
• FO, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Braided Strap

• Make 3 cords: Using Warm Tan/Brown, Forest Green, and Lime Green yarn, create three long cords approximately 50-60 inches long each. You can achieve this by making a very long chain of sc (e.g., ch 200-250 for each), or by making an I-cord, or simply twisting multiple strands of yarn together for each color.
• Braid the three cords together. Secure ends by knotting or sewing.
• Thread wooden beads onto the strap ends before securing if desired.

Tassels (Make 2-3, using Warm Tan/Brown, Forest Green, Lime Green yarn)

• Wrap yarn around a piece of cardboard (or your hand) about 4-5 inches wide, about 30-40 times.
• Slide off the cardboard. Tie a piece of yarn tightly around the top loop to gather.
• Tie another piece of yarn about 1 inch down from the top to form the tassel ‘head’.
• Cut the bottom loops to create fringe. Trim evenly.

Assembly

• Position the large layered flower centrally on the front panel of the bag. Pin in place. Using the tail, sew the flower securely to the bag.
• Arrange the crochet leaves around the flower, mixing the green shades. Sew them securely in place.
