Materials

• DK weight yarn in Dark Green (approx. 150m)
• DK weight yarn in Light Green (approx. 50m)

Instructions

Bag Base (Dark Green)

• Row 1: Ch 26. Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in next 23 ch, 3 sc in last ch. Turn to work along the other side of the chain. Sc in next 23 ch, 2 sc in last ch. (52 stitches)
• Row 2: Ch 1, turn. Sc in next 23 st, inc in next 3 st, sc in next 23 st, inc in next 2 st. (57 stitches)
• Row 3: Ch 1, turn. Sc in next 24 st, (inc, sc in next st) x 3, sc in next 24 st, (inc, sc in next st) x 2. Join with sl st to first sc. (62 stitches)
• Rounds 4-15: Ch 1, sc in BLO around. Join with sl st to first sc. (62 stitches). This creates the ribbed texture. FO.

Surface Veins (Light Green)

• Using Light Green yarn and a tapestry needle, or surface slip stitches with your hook, embroider or crochet decorative vein lines onto the dark green bag base, mimicking leaf veins, as seen in the image.

Large Flowers (Make 2 Deep Pink, 1 Light Pink)

• Round 1 (Center): In MR, ch 2 (counts as hdc), 9 hdc. Join with sl st to top of ch 2. (10 hdc)
• Round 2 (Small Petals): Ch 2, dc in same st, (ch 2, dc in same st, sl st in next st) x 10. (10 small petals).
• Round 3 (Medium Petals): Work behind the small petals into the sl st join points from Round 1. (Ch 3, 3 trc in join point, ch 3, sl st in next join point) x 5. (5 medium petals)
• Round 4 (Large Petals): Work behind the medium petals into the sl st join points from Round 1 (these might be tight, use the loops just below). (Ch 4, 4 trc in join point, ch 4, sl st in next join point) x 5. (5 large petals). FO, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Flower Centers (Pale Yellow)

• For each flower, using Pale Yellow yarn, create a small french knot or a few small stitches in the very center of the flower to represent the stamen. Secure ends.

Leaves (Light Green)

• Make approx. 5-7 leaves: Ch 10. Sl st in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next ch, hdc in next 2 ch, dc in next 2 ch, hdc in next 2 ch, sc in last ch. Ch 1, turn to work on the other side of the chain. Sc in first st, hdc in next 2 st, dc in next 2 st, hdc in next 2 st, sc in last st, sl st to first sl st. FO, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Strap (Dark Brown)

• Ch 150 (or to desired length). Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. (149 sc).
• Ch 1, turn. Sc in each st across. (149 sc).
• Repeat previous row until the strap is about 1cm wide. FO, leaving a long tail for sewing. Alternatively, create a long braided yarn cord.

Assembly

• Arrange the three large flowers (2 deep pink, 1 light pink) and the various light green leaves on the front of the dark green bag base, as seen in the image. Experiment with the placement before sewing.
• Using your tapestry needle and the long tails, securely sew all the flowers and leaves onto the bag base. Weave in any remaining loose ends.
• Attach each end of the brown strap to the top corners of the bag using the long tails. Ensure it’s secure.
