Part 1: The Lace Yoke (Cream)
Using Color A, ch 60.
- Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. (59 sc) Ch 1, turn.
- Row 2: Sc in first sc, *ch 2, sk 2 sc, dc in next sc, ch 2, sk 2 sc, sc in next sc* rep 9 times. (10 sc, 9 dc, 19 ch-2 sps). Ch 1, turn.
- Row 3: Sc in first sc, *3 sc in ch-2 sp, sc in dc, 3 sc in ch-2 sp, sc in next sc* rep 9 times. (79 sc) Ch 1, turn.
- Row 4: Sc in first 5 sc, *ch 3, sk 3 sc, dc in next 2 sc, ch 3, sk 3 sc, sc in next 5 sc* rep to end. (approx. 7 ‘v’ motifs, adjust sc count if needed for symmetry). Ch 1, turn.
- Row 5: Sc in each sc and 3 sc in each ch-3 sp, dc in each dc. (Adjust counts to maintain a flat edge). Ch 1, turn.
- Row 6 (Lace Detail): Sc in first 3 sc, *ch 5, sk 3 sc, sc in next 4 sc* rep across. (Create loops for feather attachment). Ch 1, turn.
- Row 7 (Edging): Sl st in each sc, working 5 sc into each ch-5 sp to create a more defined scallop for feather attachment. FO.
Part 2: The Feathers (Make 5)
You will make 1 Large Feather, 2 Medium Feathers, and 2 Small Feathers.
General Feather Construction: Each feather is worked flat, starting with a chain, then working hdc around the chain and increasing. The colors blend from Blue at the tip, to Green, then Cream at the top.
Small Feather (Make 2)
Using Color B, ch 10.
- Row 1: Hdc in 3rd ch from hook and in next 6 chs, 3 hdc in last ch. Working along the opposite side of the chain: hdc in next 7 chs, 2 hdc in last ch. Join with sl st to first hdc. (20 hdc) Ch 2, turn.
- Row 2-4: Hdc in each hdc around, increasing 2 hdc evenly on each side (e.g., hdc, 2hdc in next st, hdc to center, 2hdc in next st, hdc to end). Total 26 hdc at end of Row 4.
- Change to Color C (Light Green).
- Row 5-8: Rep Row 2-4 increasing evenly. Total 34 hdc at end of Row 8.
- Change to Color A (Cream).
- Row 9-14: Rep Row 2-4 increasing evenly. Total 46 hdc at end of Row 14. FO.
- Edging: With Color A, join with sc at bottom tip. Sc evenly around the entire feather, working 3 sc in the tip and 1 sc in each st along the sides. Sl st to join, FO. Leave a long tail for attaching.
Medium Feather (Make 2)
Using Color B, ch 14.
- Row 1: Hdc in 3rd ch from hook and in next 10 chs, 3 hdc in last ch. Working along the opposite side of the chain: hdc in next 11 chs, 2 hdc in last ch. Join with sl st to first hdc. (28 hdc) Ch 2, turn.
- Row 2-6: Hdc in each hdc around, increasing 2 hdc evenly on each side. Total 38 hdc at end of Row 6.

- Edging: With Color A, join with sc at bottom tip. Sc evenly around the entire feather, working 3 sc in the tip and 1 sc in each st along the sides. Sl st to join, FO. Leave a long tail for attaching.
Large Feather (Make 1)
Using Color B, ch 18.
- Row 1: Hdc in 3rd ch from hook and in next 14 chs, 3 hdc in last ch. Working along the opposite side of the chain: hdc in next 15 chs, 2 hdc in last ch. Join with sl st to first hdc. (36 hdc) Ch 2, turn.
- Row 2-8: Hdc in each hdc around, increasing 2 hdc evenly on each side. Total 52 hdc at end of Row 8.
- Change to Color C (Light Green).
- Row 9-16: Rep Row 2-8 increasing evenly. Total 68 hdc at end of Row 16.
- Change to Color A (Cream).
- Row 17-26: Rep Row 2-8 increasing evenly. Total 88 hdc at end of Row 26. FO.
- Edging: With Color A, join with sc at bottom tip. Sc evenly around the entire feather, working 3 sc in the tip and 1 sc in each st along the sides. Sl st to join, FO. Leave a long tail for attaching.
Part 3: Assembly
- Attach Feathers: Using the long tails and tapestry needle, sew the feathers to the bottom scallops of the Lace Yoke. Attach the Large Feather to the central scallop. Then attach a Medium Feather to each side of the Large Feather. Finally, attach a Small Feather to the outer side of each Medium Feather. Distribute them evenly.
- Create Neck Strap: With Color A, join yarn to the top corner of the Lace Yoke. Ch 150 (or desired length for the strap). Sl st into the same corner, then sl st along the top edge of the yoke to the opposite corner. Ch 150. Sl st into the corner. FO.
- Finishing: Weave in all remaining loose ends securely. You can also thread the chain strap through small jump rings attached to the yoke corners for a more finished look.
