Materials

• Worsted Weight Yarn (approx. 100g each in Olive Green, Burnt Orange, Mustard Yellow)

Instructions

Gauge: One finished hexagon should measure approximately 10cm (4 inches) from side to side.

Hexagon Motif (Make 7)

• Rnd 1 (Mustard Yellow): Make a magic ring. Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 1 dc into ring. *Ch 1, 2 dc into ring*. Repeat from * 4 more times (6 groups of 2 dc). Ch 1, join with sl st to top of starting ch 3. Fasten off. (12 dc, 6 ch-1 sp)
• Rnd 2 (Burnt Orange): Join Burnt Orange yarn with a sl st into any ch-1 sp. Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), (dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in same ch-1 sp (first corner). *(2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in next ch-1 sp (corner)*. Repeat from * 4 more times. Join with sl st to top of starting ch 3. Fasten off. (24 dc, 6 ch-2 sp)
• Rnd 3 (Olive Green): Join Olive Green yarn with a sl st into any ch-2 sp. Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), (dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in same ch-2 sp (corner). *2 dc in space between next 2-dc groups, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in next ch-2 sp*. Repeat from * 4 more times. 2 dc in space between next 2-dc groups. Join with sl st to top of starting ch 3. Fasten off, weave in ends. (36 dc, 6 ch-2 sp)

Bag Body Assembly

• Arrange 5 hexagons to form the main body: 2 for the front, 2 for the back, and 1 for the bottom. You will need to fold the bottom hexagon to create a boxy shape.
• Using Olive Green yarn and a yarn needle, whip stitch or sl st the hexagons together along their edges to form the main bag structure. Ensure the right sides are facing out.
• For the front/back panels, you can join 2 hexagons side-by-side, then join these two larger panels to the bottom hexagon and then along the side edges.
• Bag Opening Edging: Join Olive Green yarn at the top opening of the bag. Ch 1, sc evenly around the entire opening. Join with sl st. Ch 1, sc in each sc around. Join with sl st. Fasten off.

Flap

• Small Circular Appliqué (Make 2 – 1 Mustard Yellow, 1 Burnt Orange):
  • Rnd 1: Make a magic ring. Ch 2 (counts as hdc), 9 hdc into ring. Join with sl st to top of ch 2. (10 hdc)
  • Rnd 2: Ch 2, 2 hdc in each st around. Join with sl st to top of ch 2. Fasten off, leave a long tail for sewing. (20 hdc)
• Flap Base (Olive Green): Ch 20.
  • Row 1: Hdc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. (19 hdc). Ch 2, turn.
  • Row 2-8: Hdc in each st across. Ch 2, turn. (19 hdc)
  • Row 9: Attach the wooden ring. Sc in first st. Work sc around the wooden ring, making sure to enclose the top edge of the ring with sc stitches as you work across the row. Continue with sc in the remaining sts of the row if needed, adjusting to secure the ring centrally. Ch 1, turn.
  • Row 10: Sc in each sc across. Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.
• Assembly: Sew the two small circular appliqués onto the flap below the wooden ring. Attach the flap to the back upper edge of the bag body using the long tail and yarn needle.

Strap

• Using Olive Green yarn, Ch 120 (or desired length for waist).
• Row 1: Hdc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. (119 hdc). Ch 2, turn.
• Row 2-3: Hdc in each st across. Ch 2, turn. (119 hdc). Fasten off, leaving long tails.
• Sew the strap securely to the sides of the bag’s opening.

Fringe

• Cut strands of Olive Green, Burnt Orange, and Mustard Yellow yarn, each approximately 20cm (8 inches) long.
• Take 2-3 strands of yarn, fold them in half, insert your hook into a stitch along the bottom edge of the bag, pull the folded loop through, then pull the yarn tails through the loop. Pull tight to secure.
• Repeat this process evenly across the bottom of the bag, alternating colors, until the desired fringe thickness is achieved. Trim the fringe evenly.
