Backpack Straps (Light Brown – Make 2)

These will be braided. Cut 6 strands of light brown yarn, each about 3 yards long. Group into three sections of 2 strands. Braid tightly. Secure ends with knots. Alternatively, crochet straps:

Christmas Gift (Light Brown and Red)

Box (Light Brown)

Make 6 squares.

Assemble into a cube, lightly stuff. Use a red yarn piece to wrap around like a ribbon and tie a small bow.

Holly and Berries (Green and Red)

Leaves (Green – Make 2-3)

• Ch 6.
• Sc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc, dc, hdc, sc. (5 sts)
• Continue around chain: sc, hdc, dc, hdc, sc. Sl st to join. FO, leave tail.

Berries (Red – Make 3)

• MR, 6 sc. Sl st to join. FO, leave tail.

Snowflakes (White – Make 2-3)

• Rnd 1: MR, ch 2 (counts as hdc), 5 hdc in ring, sl st to first hdc. (6 hdc)
• Rnd 2: Ch 1, (sl st into next hdc, ch 3, sc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc in next ch, sl st back into same hdc) x 6. This creates the points.
• FO, leave long tail for sewing.

Assembly

• 1. Face Details: Place the Bear Snout centrally on the upper front part of the Backpack Body (approx. Rnd 20-25). Sew in place, stuffing lightly before fully closing.
• 2. Eyes: Insert safety eyes above the snout, about 4-5 stitches apart, centered.
• 3. Nose & Mouth: With black yarn, embroider a triangle nose at the top of the snout. Embroider a small inverted ‘Y’ shape for the mouth.
• 4. Ears: Position the Bear Ears on top of the head, slightly to the sides, and sew securely.
• 5. Santa Hat: Sew the Santa Hat onto the top of the bear’s head, slightly angled as seen in the image.
• 6. Scarf: Drape the scarf around the bear’s neck/backpack and secure with a few stitches so it stays in place.
• 7. Gift: Sew the Christmas Gift onto one of the bear’s ‘paws’ (front lower part of the backpack).
• 8. Holly: Sew the green holly leaves near the gift or on the shoulder, then sew the red berries on top of the leaves.
• 9. Snowflakes: Sew the white snowflakes onto the lower front sides of the backpack.
• 10. Straps: Attach the two Backpack Straps securely to the top back of the backpack (near the bear’s ‘neck’) and to the lower back of the backpack. Adjust placement for comfortable wear.
• 11. Finishing: Weave in any remaining loose ends. Your Christmas Bear Crochet Backpack is ready!
