Materials

• Fingering weight yarn in Light Blue (cage), Soft Yellow (bird), and scraps of Orange and Green/Blue
• 2.0 mm crochet hook

• Keychain metal ring, clasp, wooden bead, and tassel

Instructions

Step 1: The Tiny Yellow Bird

Using soft yellow yarn:

• Round 1: 6 sc in MR (6)
• Round 2: 6 inc (12)
• Round 3: (1 sc, inc) x 6 (18)
• Round 4-9: 18 sc (18)

Insert 4mm safety eyes between Rounds 5 and 6, leaving about 3 stitches between them. Using orange yarn, embroider a small triangle beak between the eyes. Stuff the body lightly.

Fasten off, weave in ends. To make the wings, use green/blue variegated yarn to chain 4. Starting in the 2nd chain from hook, work: 1 sc, 1 hdc, 1 dc. Fasten off and sew to the sides of the yellow bird.

Step 4: Assembly & Keyring Attachment

Securely stitch the bottom of the little yellow bird to the center of the birdcage base. Place the dome cage over the bird, lining up the bottom of the 6 bars with the rim of the base. Sew the bottom of each cage bar securely to the top edge of the base using your yarn needle. Attach your metal keyring, wooden bead, and decorative tassel to the top crochet loop.
