Materials

• Worsted weight yarn in Off-white/Cream
• Worsted weight yarn in Red
• Worsted weight yarn in Yellow
• 2.5mm or 3.0mm crochet hook (or size suitable for your yarn)
• 6mm or 8mm black safety eyes
• Polyester fiberfill for stuffing

Instructions

This pattern is worked in continuous rounds unless otherwise stated. Use a stitch marker to keep track of the first stitch of each round.

Body (Off-white/Cream)

• R1: Start with a MR, 6 sc (6)
• R2: 6 inc (12)
• R3: (1 sc, inc) x 6 (18)
• R4: (2 sc, inc) x 6 (24)
• R5: (3 sc, inc) x 6 (30)
• R6-R12: 30 sc (7 rounds)
• R13: (3 sc, dec) x 6 (24)
• R14: (2 sc, dec) x 6 (18)
• Stuff firmly with fiberfill.
• R15: (1 sc, dec) x 6 (12)
• R16: 6 dec (6)
• FO, leaving a tail. Weave the tail through the front loop of the remaining 6 stitches and pull tight to close the hole. Weave in ends.

Comb (Red) – Make 1

• R1: Ch 6. Sl st in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next ch, hdc in next ch, sc in next ch, sl st in last ch. (This creates a wavy shape)
• FO, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Wattle (Red) – Make 1

• R1: In a MR, 4 sc. Sl st to first sc. (4)

Beak (Yellow) – Make 1

Wings (Off-white/Cream) – Make 2

• R1: Ch 5. Starting in the 2nd ch from hook, sc in each of the next 4 ch. (4)
• R2-R3: Ch 1, turn. 4 sc. (4)
• FO, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Tail (Off-white/Cream) – Make 1

• R1: In a MR, 5 sc. (5)

• FO, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Assembly

• 1. Eyes: Insert the safety eyes between R9 and R10 on the body, about 6-7 stitches apart. Secure the washers on the inside.
• 2. Beak: Lightly stuff the beak (optional). Sew the yellow beak centered below the eyes, around R10-R11.
• 3. Wattle: Sew the red wattle just under the beak.
• 4. Comb: Sew the red comb to the top of the chicken’s head, between R2-R4.
• 5. Wings: Sew the wings to the sides of the body, roughly between R8-R12. Use red yarn and a tapestry needle to embroider a small ‘V’ shape or a few stitches on each wing for detail, as shown in the image.
• 6. Tail: Lightly flatten the tail piece and sew it to the back of the chicken’s body, around R10-R12.
