Materials

• 3.5mm crochet hook

• Faux leather strap with buckle and connector pieces (2)

Instructions

Gauge: Not critical for this project, but ensure your stitches are tight enough to prevent gaps.

Front Panel (Sloth Face) – Make 1

Using Yarn A (White):

Embroider Face Details

Using Yarn E (Brown), embroider two oval shapes for the eye patches onto the White section. Using Yarn F (Black), embroider small French knots for the eyes within the brown patches. Embroider a small inverted triangle for the nose and a curved smile below the nose, also in Black.

Back Panel – Make 1

Follow instructions for the Front Panel, but do not embroider the face details. FO, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Gusset (Side Strip)

The gusset will incorporate the zipper. First, measure the circumference of your finished circular panels. This will be the total length of your gusset. The zipper will cover a portion of this length.

Assuming a 7-8 inch zipper, we will crochet the remaining sections.

Section 1 (Bottom Gusset)

Using Yarn C (Light Green):

• Row 1: Ch 5. Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in next 3 chs (4 sc). Ch 1, turn. (4)
• Row 2-3: Sc in each st across. Ch 1, turn. (4)

Change to Yarn D (Light Blue):

• Row 4-5: Sc in each st across. Ch 1, turn. (4)

Change to Yarn B (Light Peach):

• Row 6-7: Sc in each st across. Ch 1, turn. (4)

Change to Yarn A (White):

• Row 8-9: Sc in each st across. Ch 1, turn. (4)

Continue this color sequence (C, D, B, A for 2 rows each) until the strip measures about 16-18 inches long (or desired length for the bottom portion of your pouch). FO.

Section 2 (Strap Connectors) – Make 2

Using Yarn C (Light Green):

• Row 1: Ch 5. Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in next 3 chs (4 sc). Ch 1, turn. (4)
• Row 2: Sc in each st across. Ch 1, turn. (4)

Sl st to next st and FO. Weave in ends.

Assembly

1. Attach Zipper: Take the main gusset strip (Section 1). Identify the two ends where the zipper will be attached. Pin and hand-sew your zipper securely to these two ends of the gusset strip, creating a loop with an opening for the zipper. Ensure the zipper opens smoothly.
2. Attach Strap Connectors: Insert one faux leather strap connector piece into one of the small crocheted green tabs (Section 2). Fold the tab around the connector and securely sew it closed. Repeat for the second tab and connector.
3. Attach Strap Tabs to Gusset: Hand-sew one strap tab to each side of the zipper opening on the gusset loop. Ensure they are placed symmetrically.
4. Join Gusset to Panels: Place the Front Panel and Back Panel right sides out. Align the gusset loop around the edge of one circular panel. Pin generously. Using the long tail from the circular panel or a new piece of yarn, whip stitch or sc the gusset to the front panel, working through both loops of the gusset and the outer loop of the circular panel for a neat finish. Repeat for the back panel. Ensure the gusset sits evenly.
5. Final Touches: Weave in all remaining ends securely. Attach your faux leather strap to the connector pieces.
