Materials

• Worsted weight yarn (#4) in Yellow, Brown, Kelly Green, Black, and Cream
• 3.5 mm (E-4) crochet hook
• 6mm safety eyes for the bee
• Fiberfill stuffing

Instructions

Sunflower Center (Brown Yarn):

Start with a magic ring.

• Round 1: 6 sc in magic ring. (6)
• Round 2: inc in each st around. (12)
• Round 3: [sc, inc] repeat 6 times. (18)
• Round 4: [2 sc, inc] repeat 6 times. (24)
• Round 5: [3 sc, inc] repeat 6 times. (30)
• Round 6: [4 sc, inc] repeat 6 times. (36)
• Round 7: [5 sc, inc] repeat 6 times. (42)
• Round 8: [6 sc, inc] repeat 6 times. (48) Fasten off and weave in ends.

Sunflower Petals (Yellow Yarn):

Join yellow yarn to the FLO of Round 8 to make the front layer of petals.

• Step 1: *ch 6, hdc in 2nd ch from hook, dc in next 3 chs, tr in last ch. Skip 1 stitch on the brown circle, sl st into FLO of next stitch.*
• Step 2: Repeat from * to * around the entire circle to create the front layer of petals.
• Step 3: Join yellow yarn to the BLO of Round 8 and repeat the petal pattern to create the layered, offset back petals. Fasten off and weave in ends.

Green Leaves (Make 3):

Using Green yarn, ch 15.

• Round 1: Working along the chain: sc in 2nd ch, hdc in next, dc in next 2, tr in next 6, dc in next 2, hdc in next, 3 sc in the last chain stitch to turn. Working down the opposite side of the chain: hdc in next, dc in next 2, tr in next 6, dc in next 2, hdc in next, sc in last. Sl st to join.
• Round 2: ch 1, sc around the leaf, adding (sc, ch 1, sc) in the tip of the leaf to make a point. Sl st to join and leave a long tail for sewing. Stitch the three leaves evenly underneath the sunflower base.

Using Yellow yarn, start with a magic ring.

• Round 1: 6 sc in magic ring. (6)
• Round 2: inc in each st around. (12)
• Round 3: [sc, inc] repeat 6 times. (18)
• Round 4: [2 sc, inc] repeat 6 times. (24)
• Round 5: sc around. (24)
• Round 6-7: Change to Black. sc around. (24)

• Round 12-13: Change to Yellow. sc around. (24) Insert safety eyes between Rounds 3 and 4, about 4 stitches apart. Embroider a small smile with black thread.

Wings (Cream Yarn – Make 2):

ch 5. hdc in 2nd ch from hook, dc in next 2 ch, 4 hdc in last ch to turn. Work down opposite side: dc in next 2, hdc in last. Sl st to join, leave a tail, and sew both wings onto the top of the bee’s back.
