Crochet Pattern: Chic Silver Fern Crochet Crop Top Pattern

Materials

• DK weight cotton yarn in Black (approx. 250g – 350g depending on size)
• DK weight cotton yarn in White (approx. 100g)
• 4.0 mm (U.S. G/6) crochet hook
• 3.5 mm (U.S. E/4) crochet hook (for ribbing and collar)

Instructions

Waist Ribbing (Worked with 3.5mm hook and White yarn):

Row 1: Ch 13. Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Turn. (12 sc)

Row 2: Ch 1, sc in BLO of each st across. Turn. (12 sc)

Repeat Row 2 until the ribbing measures your waist circumference snugly when slightly stretched (approx. 120-140 rows). Join the ends with sl st to form a ring. Do not fasten off.

Textured Waist Band (Worked with 4.0mm hook):

Switch to Black yarn. Ch 1, work one round of sc evenly around the top edge of the white ribbing. Sl st to join. (Ensure total stitches are a multiple of 2).

Next Round: Ch 1, *puff st in next st, skip 1 st, repeat from * around. Sl st to join.

Next Round: Ch 1, sc in each st and ch-1 space around. Sl st to join. Fasten off Black.

Main Body (Front & Back Panels worked in rounds):

Join Black yarn in any stitch of the waist band. We will work in continuous double crochet rounds up to the underarms.

Rnd 1: Ch 2 (does not count as st), dc in each st around. Sl st to join.

Repeat Rnd 1 until the body measures 6 inches from the ribbing (or desired crop length before armholes). Fasten off.

Sleeves and Raglan Shaping:

Divide your stitches into Front, Back, and Sleeves. Place markers for front, back, and two sleeve openings. For standard sizing, allocate 35% of sts each for front and back, and 15% each for sleeves.

Rejoin Black yarn at the armhole junction and work the yoke upwards. Create raglan decreases by double crocheting 2 together (dc2tog) at the start and end of each body and sleeve section every round until the collar is reached. Fasten off Black.

Collar Ribbing (Worked with 3.5mm hook):

Rnd 1: Join White yarn at the neckline. Work one round of sc evenly around. Sl st to join.

Rnds 2-3: Switch to Black yarn. Ch 1, hdc in each st around. Sl st to join.

Rnds 4-5: Switch to White yarn. Ch 1, sc in each st around. Sl st to join. Fasten off and weave in ends.

Fern Leaf Appliqué (Worked in White with 3.5mm hook):

Main Stem: Ch 45. Sl st in 2nd ch from hook and next 4 chs. From here, we will build the fern leaflets along both sides of this central stem.

First Leaflet: Ch 8. Sl st in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next, hdc in next, dc in next 3, sl st back into the stem.

Repeat leaflets of varying lengths (ranging from 6 chs to 12 chs) along both sides of the stem, keeping them smaller at the tip of the stem and larger towards the base to create the tapered fern silhouette. Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Assembly and Finishing:

Block the crochet top and the white fern appliqué to ensure flat, even stitches. Pin the white fern applique diagonally across the front panel of the black top, using the image as a reference. Using your yarn needle and the long white tail, neatly sew the fern onto the front of the top. Fasten off securely on the inside. Weave in all loose ends.
