Instructions

This poncho is worked in rounds from the top down. The “V” pattern is created by increasing at the four corners of a square shape, which then drapes into a poncho.

• Gauge: Not critical for this project, but aim for a fabric you like.
• Finished Size: Easily adjustable by adding more rounds.

Poncho Body

With Color A, ch 80. Join with a sl st to the first ch to form a ring, being careful not to twist the chain.

Round 1 (Color A): Ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc in the next 19 ch, (dc, ch 2, dc) in the next ch (first corner), dc in the next 19 ch, (dc, ch 2, dc) in the next ch (second corner), dc in the next 19 ch, (dc, ch 2, dc) in the next ch (third corner), dc in the next 19 ch, (dc, ch 2, dc) in the next ch (fourth corner). Join with a sl st to the top of the beg ch 3. (20 dc per side, 4 ch-2 corner sps)

Round 2 (Color A): Ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc in each dc around, working (dc, ch 2, dc) in each ch-2 corner sp. Join with a sl st to the top of the beg ch 3. (22 dc per side, 4 ch-2 corner sps)

Round 3 (Color B): Change to Color B. Ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc in each dc around, working (dc, ch 2, dc) in each ch-2 corner sp. Join with a sl st to the top of the beg ch 3. (24 dc per side, 4 ch-2 corner sps)

Round 4 (Color B): Ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc in each dc around, working (dc, ch 2, dc) in each ch-2 corner sp. Join with a sl st to the top of the beg ch 3. (26 dc per side, 4 ch-2 corner sps)

Repeat Rounds 1-6 (adjusting colors as per the stripe sequence: 2 rounds Color A, 2 rounds Color B, 2 rounds Color C) until the poncho reaches your desired length. Make sure to adjust the starting round for each color sequence (e.g., Rounds 7-8 will be Color A, Rounds 9-10 will be Color B, etc.). End with 2 rounds of Color C.

Last Round: After completing the final stripe sequence, with Color C, ch 1, sc in each dc around and 3 sc in each ch-2 corner sp. Join with a sl st to the first sc. FO.

Fringe

Cut lengths of Color A and Color B yarn approximately 10-12 inches long. Take 2 strands (one of Color A, one of Color B) for each fringe. Fold the strands in half. Insert your hook into a stitch along the bottom edge of the poncho, grab the folded loop, pull it through, then pull the yarn tails through the loop. Pull tightly to secure.

Attach fringe evenly spaced around the entire bottom edge of the poncho. Trim fringe to desired length.

Weave in all ends.
