Materials

• Worsted or Bulky weight yarn in Light Green, Dark Green, and Medium Brown
• Small amount of Black embroidery floss or thin yarn
• 5.0 mm (H-8) crochet hook

• High-loft polyester fiberfill stuffing
• Yarn needle

Instructions

Front Panel (Light Green):

We will work the body in rows to create the iconic pear-shaped avocado face.

• Row 1: Ch 11, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across (10 sc).
• Row 2: Ch 1, turn, inc in first st, sc in next 8 sts, inc in last st (12 sc).
• Row 3: Ch 1, turn, inc in first st, sc in next 10 sts, inc in last st (14 sc).
• Rows 4-10: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across (14 sc).
• Row 11: Ch 1, turn, inc in first st, sc in next 12 sts, inc in last st (16 sc).
• Rows 12-18: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across (16 sc).
• Row 19: Ch 1, turn, dec, sc in next 12 sts, dec (14 sc).
• Rows 20-22: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across (14 sc).
• Row 23: Ch 1, turn, dec, sc in next 10 sts, dec (12 sc).
• Rows 24-28: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across (12 sc).
• Row 29: Ch 1, turn, dec, sc in next 8 sts, dec (10 sc).
• Row 30: Ch 1, turn, dec, sc in next 6 sts, dec (8 sc).
• Do not fasten off. Work a round of sc evenly all the way around the edge of the panel to create a clean finish. Fasten off and weave in ends.

Back Panel (Dark Green):

Repeat the exact instructions as the Front Panel using Dark Green yarn.

The Pit (Brown):

The pit is worked in continuous rounds using a stitch marker to keep track of your place.

• Rnd 1: 6 sc in a magic ring (6).
• Rnd 2: Inc in each st around (12).
• Rnd 3: *sc, inc* repeat around (18).
• Rnd 4: *2 sc, inc* repeat around (24).
• Rnd 5: *3 sc, inc* repeat around (30).
• Rnds 6-8: Sc in each st around (30).
• Insert safety eyes between Rnds 4 and 5, leaving about 4 stitches of space between them. Using black yarn, embroider a happy smile directly below the eyes.
• Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Stuff the pit lightly with fiberfill.

Side Gusset / Rind Band (Dark Green):

This creates the thick 3D side panel of the pillow.

• Row 1: Ch 9, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across (8 sc).
• Row 2 and beyond: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across. Repeat this row until the band is long enough to fit entirely around the perimeter of the front panel. Fasten off, leaving a long tail.

Assembly:

• Position the stuffed brown pit onto the lower half of the Light Green Front Panel. Sew securely in place using the yarn tail.
• Using Dark Green yarn, sew the Side Gusset around the perimeter of the Front Panel.
• Next, align the Back Panel with the open side of the Side Gusset. Begin sewing them together.
• Before closing the seam, stuff the entire pillow firmly with polyester fiberfill, making sure it holds its avocado shape well.
• Finish sewing the remaining seam closed, fasten off, and weave in all loose ends.
