Materials

• Worsted weight yarn in Brown (approx. 200-250 yards)
• Worsted weight yarn in Light Beige/Cream (approx. 20 yards)
• Worsted weight yarn in Black (small amount for embroidery)
• 4.0mm (G) crochet hook
• Tapestry needle
• Scissors
• Two 8-10mm safety eyes (or black yarn for embroidered eyes)
• Stitch markers (optional)

Instructions

These instructions are for an adult women’s US size 7-8. Adjust hook size or yarn weight for different sizes, or add/remove stitches from the sole for length. Work in continuous rounds unless otherwise specified.

Slipper Sole (Make 2 – in MC)

• Rnd 1: Ch 18. Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in next 15 ch, 3 sc in last ch. Working along the other side of the foundation chain, sc in next 15 ch, 2 sc in last ch. (36 sts)
• Rnd 2: Sc in next 15 sts, inc in next 3 sts, sc in next 15 sts, inc in next 2 sts. (41 sts)
• Rnd 3: Sc in next 15 sts, (sc in next st, inc) 3 times, sc in next 15 sts, (sc in next st, inc) 2 times. (46 sts)
• Rnd 4: Sc in next 15 sts, (sc in next 2 sts, inc) 3 times, sc in next 15 sts, (sc in next 2 sts, inc) 2 times. (51 sts)
• Rnd 5: Sc in next 15 sts, (sc in next 3 sts, inc) 3 times, sc in next 15 sts, (sc in next 3 sts, inc) 2 times. (56 sts)
• Sl st to first sc to join. Do not FO.

Slipper Body (Continue with MC)

Now we will work up the sides of the slipper.

• Rnd 6: Ch 1, sc in back loop only around. Sl st to first sc. (56 sts)
• Rnd 7-10: Ch 1, sc in each st around. Sl st to first sc. (56 sts)

Now we will start shaping the toe.

• Rnd 11: Ch 1, sc in next 18 sts, (dec) 10 times, sc in next 18 sts. Sl st to first sc. (46 sts)
• Rnd 12: Ch 1, sc in next 16 sts, (dec) 7 times, sc in next 16 sts. Sl st to first sc. (39 sts)
• Rnd 13: Ch 1, sc in next 14 sts, (dec) 5 times, sc in next 15 sts. Sl st to first sc. (34 sts)
• Rnd 14: Ch 1, sc in each st around. Sl st to first sc. (34 sts)
• FO, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Bear Ears (Make 2 – in MC)

• Rnd 1: With MC, ch 2. Make 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook. (6 sc)
• Rnd 2: Ch 1, turn. Inc in each st across. (12 sc)
• Rnd 3: Ch 1, turn. (Sc in next st, inc) 6 times. (18 sc)
• FO, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Bear Snout (Make 2 – in CC1)

• Rnd 1: With CC1, make a magic ring, ch 1. Make 6 sc into the ring. Pull ring tight. (6 sts)
• Rnd 2: Ch 1, inc in each st around. Sl st to first sc. (12 sts)
• Rnd 3: Ch 1, (sc in next st, inc) 6 times. Sl st to first sc. (18 sts)
• FO, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Assembly

• Using the long tail from the slipper body, sew the back opening of each slipper closed if desired, or weave in the tail neatly.
• Attach Snouts: Pin a snout onto the front/top of each slipper. Sew securely in place using the tail, referring to the image for placement.
• Attach Eyes: Place safety eyes above the snout, about 2-3 stitches apart, referring to the image for placement. Secure them. If embroidering, use CC2 (black) yarn to create small round eyes.
• Embroider Nose and Mouth: With CC2 (black) yarn and a tapestry needle, embroider an inverted triangle for the nose at the top center of the snout. Then, from the bottom point of the nose, embroider a straight line down and two curved lines extending outwards for the mouth, as shown in the image.
• Attach Ears: Position the finished ears on top of the slipper, slightly behind the eyes and towards the outer edge. Sew them securely using the tails, slightly folding the bottom edge of the ear to give it a more cupped shape if desired.
• Weave in all remaining loose ends securely.
