Crochet Pattern: Severus Snape Amigurumi

Materials

• DK weight yarn in Black (main color)
• DK weight yarn in Light Beige / Skin Tone (for head and hands)
• 2.0mm or 2.25mm crochet hook (or size appropriate for your yarn to achieve tight stitches)
• Polyester fiberfill for stuffing
• 6mm black safety eyes
• Tapestry needle (for sewing parts and embroidering details)

Instructions

Head (Light Beige yarn):

Round 1: MR 6 sc (6)

Round 2: 6 inc (12)

Round 3: (sc, inc) x6 (18)

Round 4: (2 sc, inc) x6 (24)

Round 5: (3 sc, inc) x6 (30)

Round 6: (4 sc, inc) x6 (36)

Round 7-12: sc in each stitch around (36) (6 rounds)

Insert safety eyes between R9 and R10, about 6-7 stitches apart.

Round 13: (4 sc, dec) x6 (30)

Round 14: (3 sc, dec) x6 (24)

Start stuffing the head firmly.

Round 15: (2 sc, dec) x6 (18)

FO, weave in tail. Using black yarn and a tapestry needle, embroider a small vertical line for the nose (around R10-11) and a straight line for the mouth (below the nose). Embroider angled eyebrows for a stern expression.

Body (Black yarn – inner tunic):

Round 1: MR 6 sc (6)

Round 2: 6 inc (12)

Round 3: (sc, inc) x6 (18)

Round 4: (2 sc, inc) x6 (24)

Round 5-12: sc in each stitch around (24) (8 rounds)

Round 13: (2 sc, dec) x6 (18)

Round 14-15: sc in each stitch around (18) (2 rounds)

Stuff the body firmly.

FO, leaving a long tail for sewing. Sew the body to the bottom of the head.

Arms (Make 2):

Start with Light Beige yarn.

Round 1: MR 6 sc (6)

Round 2: sc in each stitch around (6)

Switch to Black yarn.

Round 3-7: sc in each stitch around (6) (5 rounds)

Stuff the hand portion lightly.

Flatten the opening and sc through both sides to close (3 sc).

FO, leaving a long tail for sewing. Sew arms to the sides of the body at the shoulders.

Legs (Make 2 – Black yarn):

Round 1: MR 6 sc (6)

Round 2: 6 inc (12)

Round 3-6: sc in each stitch around (12) (4 rounds)

Stuff lightly.

Flatten the opening and sc through both sides to close (6 sc).

FO, leaving a long tail for sewing. Sew legs to the bottom of the body.

Robe (Black yarn – separate piece):

Ch 21.

Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 19 ch (20 sc). Ch 1, turn.

Row 2-5: sc in each stitch across (20 sc). Ch 1, turn.

Row 6 (Armholes): 3 sc, ch 2, skip 4 sc (first armhole), 6 sc, ch 2, skip 4 sc (second armhole), 3 sc (14 sc, 4 ch). Ch 1, turn.

Row 7: 3 sc, 2 sc in ch-2 space, 6 sc, 2 sc in ch-2 space, 3 sc (16 sc). Ch 1, turn.

Row 8-15: sc in each stitch across (16 sc). Ch 1, turn. (8 rows)

Divide for front opening:

Right Front Panel:

Row 16: sc in first 4 stitches. Ch 1, turn. (4 sc)

Row 17-20: sc in each stitch across (4 sc). Ch 1, turn. (4 rows) FO.

Back Panel:

Rejoin yarn to the 5th stitch of Row 15. Sc in next 8 stitches. Ch 1, turn. (8 sc)

Row 17-20: sc in each stitch across (8 sc). Ch 1, turn. (4 rows) FO.

Left Front Panel:

Rejoin yarn to the 13th stitch of Row 15. Sc in next 4 stitches. Ch 1, turn. (4 sc)

Row 17-20: sc in each stitch across (4 sc). Ch 1, turn. (4 rows) FO.

Assembly of Robe:

Using your tapestry needle, sew the shoulder seams of the front panels to the back panel (these are the top edges of Rows 20).

Collar/Lapel Edging:

Join black yarn to the bottom corner of one front panel. Ch 1, then sc evenly all around the outer edge of the robe (up one front panel, around the neck opening, and down the other front panel to the bottom corner). Aim for approximately 2 sc per row end along the sides. At the top corners where the front panels meet the back panel (which will form the lapel points), work 3 sc in one stitch to create a defined corner.

Work 1-2 more rows of sc around this entire edge, working 3 sc in the same corner stitches in each round to maintain and enhance the collar/lapel shape.

FO. Slip the completed robe over the stuffed body. You may sew a few discreet stitches to secure it in place around the shoulders and sides if desired.

Tie/Belt:

Ch 30 (or desired length). Sc in 2nd ch from hook and across (29 sc).

FO. Tie this around the waist of the robe.

Hair (Black yarn):

Cut many strands of black yarn, each approximately 4-5 inches long.

Using a crochet hook, attach the hair strands to the head with the latch hook method. Insert your hook into a stitch on the head, fold a yarn strand in half, loop it onto the hook, pull the loop through the stitch, then pull the two ends of the yarn through the loop and tighten.

Start attaching hair from the center top of the head and work outwards, covering the top and sides to create Snape’s characteristic dark, slightly greasy-looking hair. Trim and style as desired.
