Instructions

Waistband Ribbing: Using Red yarn, chain 16. Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, turn. Row 2: Ch 1, sc BLO in each stitch across, turn. Repeat Row 2 until the ribbing band fits snugly around your lower ribs when slightly stretched. Slip stitch the first and last row together to form a tube. Do not fasten off.

Body (Checkered Pattern): Turn your ribbing sideways to work along the long edge. Join White yarn. We will work in tapestry single crochet, carrying the unused color inside the stitches. Each checkerboard square is 6 stitches wide and 6 rows high. Round 1: Ch 1, *sc 6 in White, sc 6 in Red* repeat around. Repeat this setup for 5 more rounds (6 rounds total of the first checkerboard block). For Rounds 7-12: Switch colors to form checkers: *sc 6 in Red, sc 6 in White* repeat around. Continue alternating blocks until the body reaches your underarms, then split for front and back panels.

Scoop Neckline & Front Panel: Work back and forth in rows on the front half. Decrease 1 stitch at each neck edge every row to shape the deep scoop neckline while keeping the checkered pattern consistent on the shoulder straps. Work until shoulder height is reached.

Back Panel: Work back and forth in rows on the back half without neckline decreases until it matches the height of the front panel. Sew the front and back shoulder seams together.

Sleeves (Make 2): Join yarn at the underarm of the armhole. Work in the round using the 6×6 checkered pattern. Decrease 1 st on each side of the underarm every 4th round to taper the sleeve. Work for 2 full checkerboard block heights. Finish with the sporty cuff: 1 round of Red sc, 1 round of White sc, and 1 round of Blue sc. Fasten off.

Neckline Border: Join Blue yarn to the center back of the neckline. Work 1 round of sc evenly around the scoop. Change to White, work 1 round of sc. Change to Red, work 1 round of sc. Fasten off and weave in all ends.

Details & Finishing: Using Blue yarn and a yarn needle, embroider the word ‘CROATIA’ in neat block letters across the front white block of the neckline. Securely sew or iron on your football crest patch onto the left breast area.
