Materials

• DK weight yarn in Cream, Red, Green, White, Blue, and Black

Instructions

Main Body Panels (Make 2 – Front and Back):

Using Cream yarn, chain 81 (or desired length for waist width). Working in rows of hdc to create a solid fabric:

• Rows 1-15 (Lower Band): Hdc in each st across. Fasten off. (Leave space for the decorative lower trim).
• Rows 16-45 (Main Bodice): Reattach cream yarn to row 15. Work in hdc across, maintaining a straight rectangular shape until you reach the underarm level (approx. 8 inches).
• Front Neckline Shaping (Rows 46-55): Leave the center 30 sts unworked for the square neck. Work each shoulder strap separately over the remaining 25 sts on each side using hdc. Fasten off.

Scalloped Borders (Neckline & Armholes):

With Blue yarn, join at any corner stitch. Work 1 row of sc around the entire neckline. Switch to Cream and work 1 row of sc. Switch to Red and work a scalloped border: *[sc, skip 1 st, 5 dc in next st, skip 1 st] repeat from * around. Repeat this process for the armhole edges.

3D Rose Applique (Make 3 Red, 2 White):

Using Red or White yarn, chain 31.

• Row 1: Dc in 4th chain from hook, *ch 1, skip 1, dc in next st. Repeat from * to end.
• Row 2: Turn, *[sc, hdc, 3 dc, hdc, sc] in each ch-1 space. Repeat from * to end. Fasten off, leaving a long tail.
• Roll the strip into a rose shape, securing the layers together with a yarn needle from the bottom.

Leaves & Stems (Make multiple):

Using Green yarn for stems, work chains of varying lengths and sew them onto the front panel in a vine-like pattern. For leaves: Chain 8, slip stitch in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next, hdc in next, dc in next 2, hdc in next, [sc, ch 2, sc] in the last chain. Work down the opposite side of the chain mirroring the stitches. Fasten off and sew next to the roses.

Miniature Soccer Ball:

Using White yarn, make a magic ring. Round 1: 6 sc in ring. Round 2: 2 sc in each st (12 sc). Round 3: *sc, inc. Repeat around (18 sc). Fasten off. Using Black yarn and a embroidery needle, stitch the pentagon panels onto the white circle to resemble a soccer ball.

Assembly & Lettering:

Sew the front and back panels together at the shoulders and sides. Using Red and Blue yarn, embroider ‘ENGLAND’ across the chest in block letters. Sew the roses, leaves, soccer ball, and St. George’s crosses onto the front panel as shown in the photo. Block the finished top to set the shape.
