Crochet Pattern: Amigurumi Monkey D. Luffy Keychain

Materials

Instructions

Work in continuous rounds unless otherwise stated. Use a stitch marker to mark the beginning of each round.

Head (Yarn A – Beige/Flesh):

R1: 6 sc in MR [6]

R2: (inc) x6 [12]

R3: (sc, inc) x6 [18]

R4: (2 sc, inc) x6 [24]

R5: (3 sc, inc) x6 [30]

R6-R11: sc around (6 rounds) [30]

Insert safety eyes between R8 and R9, about 6-7 stitches apart. Stuff firmly.

R12: (3 sc, dec) x6 [24]

FO, leaving a long tail. Weave through front loops of remaining stitches and pull tight to close. Hide tail.

Using Yarn F (white), embroider a smile line under the eyes. Using Yarn B (black), embroider a thin outline around the white smile. Embroider a small scar under the left eye with Yarn B.

Hair (Yarn B – Black):

Sl st to next st, ch 1. For each spike: (ch 3, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next ch, skip 1 st on R6, sl st into next st on R6). Repeat this around R6, making about 12-15 spikes of varying lengths and positions for a spiky hair effect. FO, leaving a long tail for sewing. Sew hair cap to the top of the head.

Straw Hat (Yarn C – Yellow, Yarn D – Red):

Crown (Yarn C):

R1: 6 sc in MR [6]

R2: (inc) x6 [12]

R5-R7: sc around (3 rounds) [24]

R8: (3 sc, inc) x6 [30] – This will be the start of the brim.

R9: In FLO: (4 sc, inc) x6 [36]

FO, leaving a long tail.

Attach Yarn D (red) to the back loop of R8. Sc around in BLO of R8 [30]. FO, weave in ends. Sew the hat onto the head, slightly tilted. Attach a keychain ring to the top of the hat.

Body (Yarn A – Beige/Flesh, Yarn E – Blue, Yarn F – White):

Start with Yarn A.

R1: 6 sc in MR [6]

R2: (inc) x6 [12]

R3: (sc, inc) x6 [18]

R5-R6: sc around [18] (Attach head to this point or continue from head, if doing one piece. Here, assume separate.)

Change to Yarn E (blue) in last sc of R9.

R12: In BLO: sc around [24]

Stuff firmly. Using Yarn F (white), attach to FLO of R11 and sc around for the white cuff of the shorts. FO, weave in ends.

Embroider the criss-cross chest detail using Yarn A on the front of the body, below the neck (around R5-R8).

Red Shirt/Vest (Yarn D – Red, Yarn C – Yellow):

Chain 18 with Yarn D, join with sl st to form a ring.

R1: Ch 1, sc in each ch around [18]

R2-R3: sc around [18]

R4: *sc in 8 sts, ch 2, skip 2 sts, sc in 8 sts* [16 sc, 2 ch] – This creates armholes.

R5: sc in 8 sts, 2 sc in ch-2 space, sc in 8 sts [18]

R6: In BLO: sc around [18]

FO, leaving a tail. Flatten the vest and sew it onto the body, aligning the bottom edge of R6 with the top edge of the blue shorts (R9 of body). Leave the front open. Use Yarn C (yellow) to embroider small dots as buttons on the front edges of the red vest.

Arms (Make 2 – Yarn A – Beige/Flesh, Yarn D – Red):

Start with Yarn A.

R1: 5 sc in MR [5]

R2-R3: sc around [5]

Change to Yarn D (red) in last sc of R3.

R4-R6: sc around [5]

FO, leaving a long tail for sewing. Do not stuff. Sew arms to the sides of the red vest.

Legs (Make 2 – Yarn A – Beige/Flesh):

Start with Yarn A.

R1: 6 sc in MR [6]

R2-R3: sc around [6]

FO, leaving a long tail for sewing. Do not stuff. Sew legs to the bottom of the body, beneath the blue shorts.

Sash (Yarn C – Yellow):

Ch 15.

Sc in 2nd ch from hook and across [14]

FO, leaving a long tail. Wrap the sash around Luffy’s waist (over the red vest) and sew securely in place, allowing one end to hang freely as pictured.

Assembly:

Sew the head onto the top of the body securely. Ensure all parts are firmly attached. Your Amigurumi Monkey D. Luffy Keychain is now complete!
