Materials

• Worsted weight yarn in Red, Green, Brown, Cream/Off-white
• Black embroidery floss (for eyes/mouth)

• 3.5mm or 4.0mm crochet hook

This pattern is worked in continuous rounds unless otherwise stated. Use a stitch marker to keep track of the first stitch of each round.

Bag Body (Red & Green Stripes)

Start with Red yarn.

• R1: 6 sc in MR (6)
• R2: inc in each st around (12)
• R3: (sc, inc) x 6 (18)
• R4: (2 sc, inc) x 6 (24)
• R5: (3 sc, inc) x 6 (30)
• R6: (4 sc, inc) x 6 (36)
• R7: (5 sc, inc) x 6 (42)
• R8: (6 sc, inc) x 6 (48)
• R9: (7 sc, inc) x 6 (54)
• R10: (8 sc, inc) x 6 (60)
• R11-12: sc in each st around (60) – This forms the base.
• Switch to Green yarn.
• R13-14: sc in each st around (60)
• Switch to Red yarn.

• Repeat alternating 2 rounds of Green and 2 rounds of Red until the bag reaches desired height (approx. 10-12 inches). FO.

Reindeer Head (Brown)

Using Brown yarn:

• R1: 6 sc in MR (6)
• R2: inc in each st around (12)
• R3: (sc, inc) x 6 (18)
• R4: (2 sc, inc) x 6 (24)
• R5: (3 sc, inc) x 6 (30)
• R6-10: sc in each st around (30)
• R11: (3 sc, dec) x 6 (24)
• R12: (2 sc, dec) x 6 (18) – Start stuffing firmly.
• R13: (sc, dec) x 6 (12)
• R14: dec x 6 (6) – FO, close opening.

Muzzle (Cream)

Using Cream yarn:

• Ch 5. Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 2 ch, 3 sc in last ch. Continue on other side of chain: sc in next 2 ch, inc in last ch (10)
• R2: inc, 2 sc, 3 inc, 2 sc, 2 inc (16)
• R3: sc in each st around (16) – FO, leave long tail for sewing.

Nose (Red)

Using Red yarn:

• R1: 6 sc in MR (6)
• R2: inc in each st around (12)
• R3: sc in each st around (12) – Stuff lightly. FO, leave long tail.

Ears (Brown & Cream, make 2)

Using Brown yarn:

• Ch 2, 4 sc in MR. Do not join, turn.
• R2: Ch 1, sc in each st (4)
• R3: Ch 1, inc, 2 sc, inc (6)
• R4: Ch 1, sc in each st (6) – FO, leave tail.

Using Cream yarn, make a slightly smaller version of the brown ear for the inner ear. Sew cream onto brown, then pinch bottom and sew to head.

Antlers (Brown, make 2)

Using Brown yarn:

• For each branch: Ch 5, sl st in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 2 ch, hdc in last ch. FO.
• Make two branches and sew them together at the base to form a small antler shape. Sew to top of head.

Santa Hat (Red & Cream)

Using Red yarn, make a cone shape (e.g., 6 sc in MR, then (sc, inc) or (2sc,inc) in rounds to expand, then sc around, then decrease until point).
Using Cream yarn, make a band for the brim and a small pom-pom. Attach brim to hat base and pom-pom to the tip.

Scarf (Green)

Using Green yarn:

• Ch 40 (or desired length), starting in 2nd ch from hook, sc across (39).
• Ch 1, turn, sc across (39). Repeat for 2 more rows. FO.

Belly Patch (Cream)

Using Cream yarn:

• R1: 6 sc in MR (6)
• R2: inc in each st around (12)
• R3: (sc, inc) x 6 (18)
• R4: (2 sc, inc) x 6 (24)
• R5: (3 sc, inc) x 6 (30) – FO, leave long tail for sewing.

Backpack Straps (Red & Cream, make 2)

Make two long strips, one Red and one Cream. For each strip:

• Ch 60 (or desired length for shoulder strap). Starting in 2nd ch from hook, sc across (59).
• Ch 1, turn, sc across (59). Repeat for 2 more rows. FO.

Twist or braid the red and cream strips together to create the candy cane effect shown in the image.

Assembly

• Face: Sew the Cream muzzle onto the Brown head. Sew the Red nose onto the muzzle. Using black embroidery floss, stitch eyes above the muzzle and a smile below. Add a small pink blush on each cheek.
• Head to Body: Sew the finished Reindeer Head to the top front edge of the main Bag Body.
• Ears & Antlers: Sew the ears and antlers to the top of the head.
• Santa Hat: Place and sew the Santa hat onto the top of the reindeer’s head.
• Scarf: Drape and sew the Green scarf around the reindeer’s neck area, where the head meets the bag body. Attach small gold bells to the scarf if desired.
• Belly Patch: Sew the Cream Belly Patch onto the lower front of the Bag Body, centered.
• Snowflakes: Embroider or appliqué white snowflakes onto the red striped sections of the bag. Attach small gold bells next to some snowflakes.
• Straps: Attach one end of each braided strap securely to the top back of the bag (behind the reindeer head) and the other end to the bottom back of the bag. Ensure they are evenly spaced and secure.

Weave in all remaining ends. Enjoy your festive Reindeer Backpack!
