Crochet SpongeBob Keychain Pattern

Materials Needed:

• Yarn (cotton or acrylic, light or medium weight) in:
  • Yellow (body)
  • White (shirt)
  • Brown (pants)
  • Red (tie)
  • Black (shoes, eye outline)
  • Pink (cheeks)
• Small amount of white and black felt or yarn for eyes
• 2.5 mm or 3 mm crochet hook
• Keychain ring
• Fiberfill stuffing
• Yarn needle
• Scissors
• Stitch marker

Body (Worked from bottom up, continuous rounds)

Start with black (shoes):

1. MR, 6 sc [6]
2. inc x6 [12]
3. sc around [12]
   Change to brown (pants):
   4–6. sc around [12]
   Change to white (shirt):
   7–8. sc around [12]
   Change to yellow (body):
   9–14. sc around [12]
4. (sc4, dec) x2 [10]
   Stuff well
5. (sc3, dec) x2 [8]
6. dec x4 [4]
   Fasten off, weave in end.

Arms (Make 2)

Using yellow:

1. MR, 5 sc [5]
   2–4. sc around [5]
   Switch to white:
   5–6. sc around [5]
   Fasten off, leave tail for sewing to side of body.

Legs (Make 2)

Start with black (shoes):

1. MR, 5 sc [5]
   2–3. sc around [5]
   Change to yellow:
   4–5. sc around [5]
   Fasten off, sew to bottom of pants.

Eyes (Make 2)

White (larger circle):

1. MR, 6 sc
2. inc x6 [12]
   Fasten off.

Black (pupil):

1. MR, 4 sc
   Fasten off and sew to center of white circle.

Optional: Outline white eye with a black border using slip stitches.

Cheeks

Use pink yarn or felt to make 2 small circles (MR with 5 sc), or simply embroider two pink blush spots.

Tie

Use red yarn:

• ch 4, sl st back through chain to create a small tie shape.
• Or embroider a small “V” at the bottom center of the white shirt area.

Assembly

1. Sew arms to each side of the body.
2. Sew legs underneath.
3. Attach eyes to upper yellow part of the body.
4. Embroider or attach pink cheeks and small black eyelashes (3 lines per eye).
5. Add tie and optional smile with black thread or yarn.
6. Use yarn or thread to attach a loop at the top. Connect the keychain ring securely.
7. Weave in all ends.
