Materials

• Aunt Lydia’s Classic Crochet Thread, Size 10 (or similar fine mercerized cotton) in: Dark Green, Bright Yellow, Orange, Brown
• Steel crochet hook, 1.75 mm or 2.0 mm (size to achieve desired tension)
• Small dark seed beads (approx. 20-30)
• Tapestry needle
• Scissors

Instructions

Gauge: Gauge is not critical for this project, but aim for tight stitches to maintain shape.

Central Sunflower (Make 1)

Brown Center:

• R1: Start with a MR, ch 1, work 8 sc into the ring. Join with sl st to the first sc. (8 sc)
• R2: Ch 1, work 2 sc in each st around. Join with sl st to the first sc. (16 sc) Fasten off.

Bright Yellow Petals:

• Join Bright Yellow yarn into any sc of R2. Ch 1, *[sl st, ch 2, 2 dc, ch 2, sl st] in the same sc.* Skip next sc. Repeat from * around, making 8 petals in total. Join with sl st to the first sl st. Fasten off. (8 petals)

Orange Petals:

• Join Orange yarn into any *skipped* sc of R2 (the sc between the yellow petals). Ch 1, *[sl st, ch 3, 3 dc, ch 3, sl st] in the same sc.* Skip next sc (this will be a st where a yellow petal was anchored). Repeat from * around, making 8 petals in total. Join with sl st to the first sl st. Fasten off. (8 petals)

Small Flowers (Make 6 Bright Yellow, 6 Orange)

Using Bright Yellow or Orange yarn:

• R1: Start with a MR, ch 1, work 6 sc into the ring. Join with sl st to the first sc. (6 sc)
• R2: Ch 1, *(sl st, ch 2, 2 dc, ch 2, sl st) in the next sc.* Repeat 6 times for 6 petals. Join with sl st to the first sl st of R2. Fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing. (6 petals)

Leaves (Make 15-20)

Using Dark Green yarn:

• Ch 7. Sc in the 2nd ch from the hook, hdc in the next ch, dc in the next ch, tr in the next ch, dc in the next ch, hdc in the last ch. Fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing.

Necklace Base Chain (Make 1)

Using Dark Green yarn:

• Ch 80 (adjust length as desired for the necklace, measuring from one side of your neck to the other, plus desired drop).
• Sc in the 2nd ch from the hook and in each ch across. (79 sc)
• Fasten off, leaving long tails at both ends for potential tying or attaching clasps later.

Assembly and Finishing

Using a tapestry needle and the yarn tails:

• Lay out the green base chain flat. Determine the center point where the sunflower will sit.
• Position the large Sunflower at the center of the base chain and sew securely using its tails.
• Arrange the Small Yellow Flowers and Small Orange Flowers around the sunflower and along the central part of the base chain, mimicking the organic cluster from the image. Sew them securely with their tails.
• Fill in gaps and add dimension by sewing the Green Leaves around and beneath the flowers. Experiment with placement to create a full, natural look.
• Optionally, thread a few Small Dark Seed Beads onto a fine needle and sew one bead into the center of some of the small flowers (especially the orange ones, as seen in the image), and a few onto the tips or bases of some leaves for extra sparkle.
• Weave in all remaining loose ends neatly. Add clasps if desired, or simply tie the ends of the base chain.
