Braided Strap
Cut 6 strands of yarn, each approx. 2 yards long: 2 Red, 2 Green, 2 White.
- Gather the strands, tie a knot at one end. Braid them tightly until desired length (approx. 40-50 inches). Tie a knot at the other end.
- If using D-rings/clasps: thread each end of the braid through a D-ring and secure. Then attach swivel clasps to the D-rings.
Assembly
- Attach Appliques: Sew the Snowflake Applique onto the center of one Red Heart Panel using the white yarn tail. Sew the two Reindeer Appliques onto the top ‘bumps’ of the same heart panel using brown yarn. Securely weave in all ends.
- Attach Side Panel: Place one Heart Panel (the front) flat. Starting from one top ‘bump’ and going around the point to the other ‘bump’, sew the Side Panel to the Heart Panel using Red yarn and a yarn needle. Make sure to keep the stitches even.
- Attach Back Panel: Place the second Heart Panel (the back) on top of the front panel and side panel, aligning edges. Starting from the top of the side panel where you stopped, continue sewing the back heart panel to the side panel, leaving the top opening unsewn (the flat top edge of the heart panels). This opening should be wide enough for the bag.
- Finish Top Edge: With Red yarn, sc around the opening of the bag to create a neat finish. (Optional: You can add 2 small loops on each side of the opening during this step if you want to attach the strap directly without D-rings.)
- Attach Strap: Sew the ends of the braided strap securely to the top edges of the bag opening, or attach the swivel clasps to the loops/D-rings if you included them.
- Weave in any remaining loose ends.
Your festive heart bag is complete! Enjoy showing off your holiday cheer!
