Crochet Pattern: Amigurumi Wolverine Keychain

Materials

• Worsted weight yarn in: Tan (Skin Tone), Dark Brown (Hair), Blue (Pants/Gloves), Red (Belt), Grey (Claws), Black (Buckle detail, optional embroidery)

Instructions

Head (Tan yarn):

Round 6-10: sc in each st around (5 rounds) [30]

Insert safety eyes between Rounds 8 and 9, about 6-7 stitches apart. Begin stuffing firmly.

Round 11: (3 sc, 1 dec)*6 [24]

Round 12: (2 sc, 1 dec)*6 [18]

Round 13: (1 sc, 1 dec)*6 [12]

Continue stuffing. FO, leaving a long tail for sewing. Close the remaining hole with a tapestry needle.

Hair/Mask (Dark Brown yarn):

This piece is worked to cover the top of the head and form the distinctive sideburns/wings. Work in continuous rounds for the cap, then rows for the wings.

Cap (Top of Head):

Round 1: MR, 6 sc [6]

Round 2: 6 inc [12]

Round 3: (1 sc, 1 inc)*6 [18]

Round 6: sc in each st around [30]. Sl st to close the round. This forms the cap for the top of the head. Do not FO.

First Wing:

From the current position, ch 1, sc in the same stitch and in the next 3 stitches along the edge of Round 6. You now have 4 sc stitches to work from. [4]

Row 1: Ch 1, turn. sc in each of the 4 sc. [4]

Row 2: Ch 1, turn. sc in each of the 4 sc. [4]

Second Wing:

Count approximately 10-12 stitches from the base of the first wing across the front of the cap to locate the starting point for the second wing. Rejoin dark brown yarn into the edge of Round 6 at this point. Repeat instructions for the First Wing.

Once both wings are crocheted, place the cap onto the head. Position and sew the wings to give them their distinctive curved shape, using the tails to sculpt and secure them to the head. Use dark brown yarn to embroider small eyebrows just above the safety eyes, creating a fierce expression.

Body (Tan yarn, then Blue yarn):

Work in continuous rounds.

Change to Blue yarn:

Claws (make 6 total – 3 per hand – Grey yarn):

ch 4, starting from 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 3 ch. [3]

Attach three claws to the end of each arm, spacing them out evenly and securing with the tail. You can optionally use a tiny bit of glue to help them stand stiffly once attached.

Legs (make 2 – Blue yarn):

Work in continuous rounds. Stuff firmly.

Round 1: MR, 6 sc [6]

Round 2: 6 inc [12]

Round 3-4: sc in each st around (2 rounds) [12]

Belt (Red yarn, Black yarn):

With Red yarn, ch 25 (adjust chain length to fit around the body), then sc in 2nd ch from hook and across. [24]

With Black yarn, embroider an “X” or a small rectangular buckle onto the center of the red belt strip.

Assembly:

1. Sew the Head to the Body, ensuring it is centered and securely attached.

2. Place the Hair/Mask piece onto the head, aligning the cap over the crown and positioning the wings symmetrically around the face. Securely sew the entire hair piece to the head, using the tails from the wings to shape them as desired.

3. Sew the Arms to the sides of the body, just below the neckline, ensuring they are positioned symmetrically.

4. Sew the Legs to the bottom of the body, spaced evenly apart. The body’s base may be slightly wider than the leg attachment points; shape as you sew to create a stable base.

5. Wrap the Red belt around the mid-section of the body (where the tan changes to blue) and sew it securely in place, with the buckle facing forward.

6. Attach the keychain hardware (split ring and chain) to the very top center of the head, ensuring it is securely fastened.
