Materials

• Fine weight yarn (fingering or sport) in Light Grey (A), Cream (B), Light Brown/Tan (C), Dark Blue (D)
• Small amount of black embroidery floss
• 2.0mm crochet hook (or size to achieve tight stitches)
• Tapestry needle
• Scissors
• Polyester fiberfill for light stuffing
• Optional: Small button or bead for closure

Instructions

Alpaca (Make 3: One in Light Grey, one in Cream, one in Light Brown/Tan)

• Using chosen alpaca color yarn:
• Body & Head:
  • Ch 5.
  • R1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 2, 3 sc in last ch. Working on the other side of the chain: sc in next 2, 2 sc in last ch. (10 sts)
  • R2: Inc, sc 2, 3 inc, sc 2, 2 inc. (16 sts)
  • R3-4: Sc around. (16 sts)
  • R5 (Neck shaping): Sc 3, dec, sc 6, dec, sc 3. (14 sts)
  • R6: Sc around. (14 sts)
  • R7 (Head shaping): Sc 2, dec, sc 5, dec, sc 3. (12 sts)
  • R8: Sc 2, (inc, sc)x2, sc 4, (inc, sc)x1. (15 sts)
  • R9: Sc around. (15 sts)
  • Lightly stuff the body and head, shaping as you go.
  • R10: (Sc, dec) x 5. (10 sts)
  • R11: (Dec) x 5. (5 sts)
  • Fasten off, leave a tail and use tapestry needle to weave through remaining 5 stitches and pull tight to close the opening. Weave in end.
• Ears (Make 2):
  • With matching alpaca color yarn, ch 3, sl st in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next ch. Fasten off, leaving a short tail for sewing. Pinch the base and sew to the top of the alpaca’s head.
• Eyes:
  • With black embroidery floss, embroider two small horizontal lines on the alpaca’s face for eyes.
• Tail Pom-pom:
  • Make a tiny pom-pom (approx. 0.5 cm / 0.2 inches diameter) with matching alpaca color yarn. Trim neatly. Sew to the back of the alpaca.

Small Connecting Pom-poms (Make 3 in Cream yarn)

• Make three tiny pom-poms (approx. 0.5 cm / 0.2 inches diameter) using Cream (B) yarn. Trim neatly.

Connecting Cord (in Dark Blue yarn)

• Cut three lengths of Dark Blue (D) yarn, each about 60cm (24 inches) long. Twist them together tightly, then fold in half and let them twist back on themselves to create a strong, durable cord. Alternatively, you can crochet a long chain of about 80-100 stitches, or to your desired bracelet length.

Assembly

• Thread the Dark Blue cord through the middle of each alpaca (around the body/neck area) and through the center of the cream pom-poms.
• Arrange the elements in the following order: Grey Alpaca, Cream Pom-pom, Cream Alpaca, Cream Pom-pom, Light Brown/Tan Alpaca.
• Adjust the spacing evenly. Once satisfied with the arrangement, secure each alpaca and pom-pom in place by tying a small knot on either side of each element using the cord, or by carefully stitching the elements to the cord using a tapestry needle and a matching yarn scrap.
• At each end of the bracelet, create a secure loop and attach a small button or bead for closure. Alternatively, you can simply tie the ends together.
• Trim any excess cord. Your adorable alpaca bracelet is complete!
