Materials

Instructions

Flower Granny Square (Make 19 for Body, 8 for Strap)

Each square uses 4 colors as follows: Rnd 1 (Center), Rnd 2 (Petals), Rnd 3 (Square Base), Rnd 4 (Border/Joining).

• Rnd 1 (Center Color): Using desired Center Color, make a magic ring. Ch 2 (counts as first hdc), 11 hdc into ring. Join with a sl st to the top of the initial ch 2. (12 hdc) FO.
• Rnd 2 (Petal Color): Join desired Petal Color with a sl st in any hdc. Ch 3 (counts as first dc), 2 dc in same st, ch 1. *Skip next st, (3 dc, ch 1) in next st*. Repeat from * 4 more times (6 clusters total). Join with a sl st to the top of the initial ch 3. FO. (6 x 3dc clusters, 6 ch-1 spaces)
• Rnd 3 (Square Base Color – Bright Green): Join Bright Green with a sl st in any ch-1 space. Ch 3 (counts as first dc), (2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in the same ch-1 sp (this forms your first corner). *Ch 1, 3 dc in next ch-1 sp (this forms a side segment). Ch 1, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in the next ch-1 sp (this forms your next corner)*. Repeat from * 2 more times. Ch 1, 3 dc in the next ch-1 sp. Ch 1. Join with a sl st to the top of the initial ch 3. FO. (4 corners, 4 side segments of 3dc)
• Rnd 4 (Border/Joining Color – Teal Blue): Join Teal Blue with a sl st in any ch-2 corner space. Ch 3 (counts as first dc), (2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in the same corner space. *3 dc in each of the next two ch-1 spaces (these are your side segments). (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in the next ch-2 corner space*. Repeat from * 2 more times. 3 dc in each of the next two ch-1 spaces. Join with a sl st to the top of the initial ch 3. FO. (4 corners, 8 side segments of 3dc)

Color Combinations for Squares

Create a mix of the following combinations for Rnd 1 (Center) and Rnd 2 (Petals), ensuring Rnd 3 is Bright Green and Rnd 4 is Teal Blue for all squares:

• Orange center, Yellow petals
• Yellow center, Fuchsia petals
• Fuchsia center, Light Blue petals
• Light Blue center, Orange petals

Bag Assembly

1. Prepare Panels:

• Front Panel: Join 6 squares (2 rows of 3 squares) using your preferred joining method (e.g., sl st join or sc join through back loops). The image shows a 3×2 grid.
• Back Panel: Join another 6 squares (2 rows of 3 squares) in the same manner.
• Side Panels (Make 2): Join 2 squares (1 row of 2 squares) for each side.
• Bottom Panel: Join 3 squares (1 row of 3 squares).

2. Join Panels:

• Attach the Bottom Panel to the lower edge of the Front Panel and Back Panel.
• Attach the two Side Panels to the short edges of the Front and Back Panels, and to the side edges of the Bottom Panel, forming a rectangular box shape.
• Ensure all seams are securely joined.

3. Top Edging for Zipper:

• Along the top opening of the bag, work 2 rounds of sc in Teal Blue to create a neat edge for zipper attachment. Ensure the stitch count is suitable for your zipper length.

4. Attach Zipper:

• Using a sewing needle and thread (or a zipper foot on a sewing machine if lining), carefully sew the 12-inch zipper into the top opening of the bag.

Strap Construction

• Make 8 Flower Granny Squares, using the same color variations as the main bag.
• Join these 8 squares in a long strip to form the strap.
• Attach the ends of the strap securely to the sides of the bag using sl st or sc. Position them slightly below the zipper.

Finishing Touches

• Weave in Ends: Securely weave in all loose yarn ends.
• Tassel: Create a tassel using strands of Orange, Yellow, Fuchsia, and Teal yarn. Attach it to the zipper pull for an extra decorative touch.
• Lining (Optional): For added durability and to prevent items from snagging, cut and sew a fabric lining to fit the inside of your fanny pack. Hand-stitch or machine-stitch it to the inside, just below the zipper.
