Materials

Instructions

• Butterfly Body (for all butterflies):
• Ch 5, join with sl st to first ch to form a ring.
• Rnd 1: Ch 1, 8 sc in ring. Sl st to first sc.
• Small Butterfly (Make 4 – for outer side placement):
• Upper Wing (Make 2): From body, ch 6. Sk first 2 ch, (sc, ch 3, picot, ch 3, sc) in 3rd ch from hook. Sl st down remaining 3 ch to join back to body (in next sc).
• Lower Wing (Make 2): From body, ch 5. Sk first ch, (sc, ch 2, picot, ch 2, sc) in 2nd ch from hook. Sl st down remaining 3 ch to join back to body (in next sc).
• Antennae: Ch 8. Sl st in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 2 ch, sl st in next 4 ch. Fasten off, weave in ends.
• Medium Butterfly (Make 2 – for middle placement, connecting to large butterfly):
• Upper Wing (Make 2): From body, ch 8. Sk first 3 ch, (dc, ch 3, picot, ch 3, dc) in 4th ch from hook. Ch 3, sl st down remaining 4 ch to join back to body (in next sc).
• Lower Wing (Make 2): From body, ch 7. Sk first 2 ch, (dc, ch 2, picot, ch 2, dc) in 3rd ch from hook. Ch 3, sl st down remaining 4 ch to join back to body (in next sc).
• Antennae: Ch 10. Sl st in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 3 ch, sl st in next 5 ch. Fasten off, weave in ends.
• Large Central Butterfly (Make 1):
• Upper Wing (Make 2): From body, ch 10. Sk first 4 ch, (tr, ch 4, picot, ch 4, tr) in 5th ch from hook. Ch 4, sl st down remaining 5 ch to join back to body (in next sc).
• Lower Wing (Make 2): From body, ch 9. Sk first 3 ch, (tr, ch 3, picot, ch 3, tr) in 4th ch from hook. Ch 4, sl st down remaining 5 ch to join back to body (in next sc).
• Antennae: Ch 12. Sl st in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 4 ch, sl st in next 6 ch. Fasten off, weave in ends.
• Assembly:
• Central Dangle: Using a beading needle and clear jewelry string/fine wire, thread one 3mm pearl, then one 2mm pearl. Loop the string/wire through the bottom point of the Large Central Butterfly’s lower wing, then through the 3mm pearl again. Securely tie a knot or twist the wire to create a small dangle.
• Prepare Pearl Strands: Cut various lengths of clear jewelry string/fine wire. You’ll need lengths for the main necklace and shorter connecting pieces.
• Layout the Butterflies: Arrange your crocheted butterflies on a flat surface in the desired necklace shape. The Large Central Butterfly should be at the bottom center. Attach the two Medium Butterflies to the upper sides of the Large one, using short pearl strands (e.g., 3-5 pearls between each connection point, securing through wing tips/loops).
• Extend the Necklace: Attach the Small Butterflies, extending outwards from the Medium ones, ensuring symmetry. Use short pearl strands (e.g., 5-7 pearls) to connect them.
• Main Necklace Strand: Once all butterflies are connected, string 2mm and 3mm pearls onto a longer length of jewelry string/wire to form the main necklace chain. Attach this chain to the outermost points of the small butterflies on each side.
• Add Clasp: Attach a jump ring to one end of the main pearl strand and the lobster clasp to the other end using jewelry pliers. Ensure all knots are secure and hidden, or wire is firmly twisted.
