Materials

• Fine cotton crochet thread (Size 10 or 20) in Ecru/Cream (Color A)
• Fine cotton crochet thread (Size 10 or 20) in Blush Pink (Color B)
• Fine cotton crochet thread (Size 10 or 20) in Lavender Haze (Color C)
• Steel crochet hook (1.5mm or 1.75mm)
• Small pearl beads (approx. 2-3mm)
• Tiny seed beads (clear or silver, approx. 1-2mm)
• Fine beading needle
• Matching sewing thread
• Scissors
• Jewelry clasp (lobster clasp or button clasp)

Abbreviations

• ch = chain
• sl st = slip stitch
• sc = single crochet
• hdc = half double crochet
• dc = double crochet
• tr = treble crochet
• dtr = double treble crochet
• st(s) = stitch(es)
• FO = Fasten off

Instructions

Gauge: Gauge is not critical for this project, but aim for a tight, even fabric to ensure the butterflies hold their shape.

Note: Work instructions for one large and one small butterfly. You will create multiple of these and join them together.

Large Butterfly Motif (Make 6-8, alternating Color B and C for inner wings)

Inner Wings (Using Color B or C):

• Upper Wing (Make 2): Ch 4, sl st into first ch to form a ring. Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 2 dc, ch 3, sl st into ring. FO.
• Lower Wing (Make 2): Ch 5, sl st into first ch to form a ring. Ch 4 (counts as 1 tr), 2 tr, ch 4, sl st into ring. FO.

Body (Using Color A – Cream):

• Ch 6. Sl st into 2nd ch from hook, sc in next ch, hdc in next ch, dc in next ch, tr in last ch. FO. (This creates a tapered body.)

Assembly & Edging:

• Arrange the wings on the wrong side of the body: Attach the two smaller (upper) wings to the narrower end of the body (sc/hdc end) and the two larger (lower) wings to the wider end (dc/tr end) using a few stitches with matching sewing thread or a sl st joining technique.
• Attach Color A (Cream) to any point on the assembled butterfly. Work sc evenly around the entire outer edge of the butterfly, making sure to work 3 sc in each corner and 1 sc in between joining points to give it a neat finish. For a picot effect, at the tip of each wing, (sc, ch 1, sc) in the same stitch. Sl st to first sc to join. FO.

Small Butterfly Motif (Make 6-8, alternating Color B and C for inner wings)

Inner Wings (Using Color B or C):

• Upper Wing (Make 2): Ch 3, sl st into first ch to form a ring. Ch 2 (counts as 1 hdc), 1 hdc, ch 2, sl st into ring. FO.
• Lower Wing (Make 2): Ch 4, sl st into first ch to form a ring. Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 1 dc, ch 3, sl st into ring. FO.

Body (Using Color A – Cream):

• Ch 4. Sl st into 2nd ch from hook, sc in next ch, hdc in last ch. FO.

Assembly & Edging:

Necklace Band Assembly

Step 1: Join Large Butterflies

• With Color A (Cream), ch 10. Take your first large butterfly and sl st to the tip of one upper wing (from the outer edging).
• *Ch 5, sl st to the tip of the upper wing on the next large butterfly.* Repeat from * to * until all large butterflies are joined in a continuous chain.
• Ch 10. FO.

Step 2: Top Edging with Pearls

• Attach Color A (Cream) to one end of the necklace band (the ch 10 section).
• Work sc evenly along the top edge. When you reach the connection point between butterflies (ch 5 space), *ch 3, string one pearl bead onto your hook, sc through the ch-3 loop to secure the bead, ch 3*. Repeat this pattern of (ch 3, bead, sc, ch 3) over each ch-5 space and above the center of each butterfly.
• Continue sc along the entire top edge, ensuring pearls are evenly spaced above the main butterflies. FO.

Step 3: Add Dangle Butterflies

• Using a fine beading needle and matching sewing thread, string 3-5 tiny seed beads. Secure one end to the bottom tip of a lower wing of a large butterfly on the necklace.
• Thread the small butterfly onto the other end of the beaded string, securing it with a few stitches at its top center.
• Repeat for all large butterflies, attaching a small butterfly to each. Vary the dangle length slightly for a more organic look.

Step 4: Finishing

• Weave in all loose ends securely.
• Attach your chosen jewelry clasp to the ch 10 loops at each end of the necklace band.
• Lightly block your necklace to help the butterflies hold their shape.
