Materials

• Medium weight (Class 4) cotton yarn in Royal Blue, Teal/Cyan, White, Red, and Yellow
• 4.0 mm crochet hook
• Tapestry needle

Instructions

Main Body (Front Panel): Start with Royal Blue yarn. Ch 71. Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, turn. Row 2-5: Ch 1, sc in each st across. Change to White yarn. Row 6: Ch 1, sc in each st across. Change to Red yarn. Row 7-8: Ch 1, sc in each st across. Change to White yarn. Row 9: Ch 1, sc in each st across. Change to Royal Blue yarn. Row 10-24: Work in sc, shaping the bust by increasing 1 st at each end of Rows 12, 16, and 20. Shape the neckline by working slip stitches across the center sts on Row 25, and continue working the left and right chest peaks separately with decreases at the neckline edge.

Back Panel: Repeat the same stripe sequence as the Front Panel, but work in simple rows of sc without neckline shaping to create a straight back band.

Wave Appliques: With Teal yarn, ch 15. Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch, hdc in next, dc in next 3, tr in next 5, dc in next 2, hdc, sc, turn. Row 2: Working along the other side of the chain, ch 1, sc, hdc, dc, tr to create a curving wave peak. Fasten off with a long tail. Use White yarn to slip stitch along the upper edge of the wave to create the foam effect. Sew wave appliques to the front panel as shown in the photo.

Star Appliques (Make 5): With Yellow yarn, make a magic ring. Repeat five times: chain 3, slip stitch in 2nd chain from hook, half double crochet in next chain, slip stitch into magic ring. Fasten off and sew in an arc on the upper front panel.

Assembly and Edging: Sew front and back panels together at the sides. Attach Royal Blue yarn to the top of the chest peaks and work ch 30 (or desired length) to create straps, joining to the back panel. Work a scallop edging along the bottom using White and Blue yarn: skip 2 stitches, 5 double crochet in next stitch, skip 2 stitches, slip stitch in next. Repeat around. Finish with short fringe along the bottom edge.
