Spines (Dark Brown Yarn)

Cut numerous 3-inch (7.5 cm) strands of dark brown yarn.
Using a crochet hook, attach these strands to the top and sides of the hedgehog’s body (the brown area in the image) using a lark’s head knot (also known as a fringe knot). Insert hook into a stitch, fold a yarn strand in half, loop it over the hook, pull through the stitch, then pull the two ends of the yarn strand through the loop on the hook and tighten. Repeat this process, spacing the knots closely together, until the desired spiky effect is achieved across the back and sides of the hedgehog. Trim the ends evenly if desired.

With Red Yarn:
