Materials

• Sport weight cotton yarn in White and Royal Blue
• 2.25 mm (B-1) crochet hook
• Metal keyring with chain
• Yarn needle and embroidery needle
• Scissors
• A small amount of fiberfill (optional, to hold shape)

• MR – Magic Ring
• ch – chain
• sc – single crochet
• inc – increase (2 single crochet in one stitch)
• sl st – slip stitch

• FO – fasten off

Instructions

Crown (Using White Yarn):

Work in continuous rounds. Mark the beginning of each round with a stitch marker.

• Round 1: Start with a MR, work 6 sc into the ring (6 sts)
• Round 2: [inc] in each st around (12 sts)
• Round 3: [sc, inc] repeat 6 times (18 sts)
• Round 4: [2 sc, inc] repeat 6 times (24 sts)
• Round 5: [3 sc, inc] repeat 6 times (30 sts)
• Round 6: [4 sc, inc] repeat 6 times (36 sts)
• Round 7-13: sc in each st around (36 sts)
• Round 14: sl st in each st around to create a neat, firm lower rim. FO and weave in your ends.

Brim (Using Royal Blue Yarn):

We will work the brim directly onto the front of the cap in rows.

• Row 1: Locate the front center of your cap. Insert your hook into the front loops of Round 13 and join your blue yarn. Work 10 sc across the front loops only, ch 1, turn (10 sts)
• Row 2: inc in first st, 8 sc, inc in last st, ch 1, turn (12 sts)
• Row 3: inc in first st, 10 sc, inc in last st, ch 1, turn (14 sts)
• Row 4: sc in each st across (14 sts). Do not turn. Slip stitch evenly down the side of the brim, along the edge where it connects to the white cap, and back up the other side to give the bill a clean, rounded border. FO and weave in all yarn tails.

Assembly and Details:

• Embroidery: Thread your embroidery needle with Royal Blue yarn. Carefully stitch a classic athletic ‘B’ (or your favorite custom letter) onto the center front of the white crown, just above the blue brim.
• Keyring Attachment: Thread a piece of white yarn through the jump ring of your keychain. Securely tie and sew this to the very top center (the magic ring) of the cap. Pull the knot inside the cap and secure.
• Finishing: Lightly stuff the inside of the cap with a small pinch of fiberfill to help it retain its perfectly rounded shape while hanging.
