Materials

Instructions

Step 1: The Dragon Head

Using Olive Green yarn, start with a Magic Ring (MR).

Round 1: 6 sc in MR (6 sts).

Round 2: (sc, inc) x3 (9 sts).

Round 3: (2 sc, inc) x3 (12 sts).

Round 4: sc in each st around (12 sts).

Round 5: (sc, inc) x6 (18 sts). Change color to Dusty Teal on the last stitch.

Round 6-8: sc in each st around (18 sts).

Insert safety eyes between Rounds 5 and 6, leaving about 7 stitches between them. Stuff the snout and head firmly with fiberfill.

Round 9: (sc, dec) x6 (12 sts).

Round 10: dec x6 (6 sts). Fasten off and sew the remaining opening closed.

Step 2: Horns and Details

Using Cream yarn, join to the top of the head behind the eyes.

Chain 5, slip stitch in the second chain from hook, sc in next 3 chains. Fasten off and sew securely to form the left horn. Repeat for the right horn. Using Rust Orange yarn, sew decorative stitch ridges around the eyes and snout to add character.

Step 3: The Scale Body (Crocodile Stitch)

Attach Olive Green yarn to the back of the dragon’s head. The body is worked in flat rows of crocodile scales.

Row 1 (Foundation): ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), dc in same space, ch 1, skip 2 sts, 1 dc in next st, ch 1, skip 2 sts, 2 dc in next st. Repeat across to establish 3 V-stitch clusters. Turn.

Row 2 (Scales): Work 5 dc down the first post of the V-stitch, ch 1, then work 5 dc up the second post of the V-stitch. Slip stitch into the single dc. Repeat across to create scales. Turn.

Row 3-20: Repeat Row 1 and 2 to create the scaly dragon body, alternating colors (Teal, Rust, Cream, Green) every scale row to match the colorful pattern in the image. Customize the length to fit snugly around your wrist.

Step 4: Tail Fin

At the end of the scale body, join Teal yarn. Chain 6. In the 2nd ch from hook, work: sc, hdc, dc, tr, dc. Sl st to the base. Repeat with Rust and Green yarn to create three leaf-like tail fins spreading outward.

Step 5: Braided Wrist Ties

Cut three 15-inch strands of Cream, Teal, and Green yarn. Fold them in half, loop them through the neck base of the dragon head, and braid them together to form a tie-strap. Repeat this step at the base of the tail fin. Wrap the dragon around your wrist and tie the braided straps underneath to secure your new mythical companion!
