Crochet Pattern: How to Crochet a Saudi Arabia Inspired Palm Tree Crop Top

Materials

• DK weight yarn in Emerald Green (approx. 200-250g)
• DK weight yarn in White (approx. 100g)
• Size 3.5 mm (E-4) crochet hook
• Yarn needle for weaving in ends and embroidery

Instructions

Size Note: This pattern is written for size Small/Medium. You can adjust the width by adding or subtracting chains in multiples of 4.

Ribbed Bottom Band:

Using MC (Green) and CC (White), chain 12. Row 1: Sc in second ch from hook and in each ch across, turn. (11 sts). Row 2: Ch 1, working in Back Loops Only (BLO), sc across. Rotate colors every 2 rows (2 rows Green, 2 rows White) to create the striped ribbing pattern. Repeat Row 2 until the band measures 30 inches (unstretched), or fits comfortably around your waist. Join the ends with a sl st to form a tube, or keep flat if working in separate panels. Here, we will work in panels.

Front Panel (Body):

Join MC (Green) to the top edge of the ribbed band. Row 1: Ch 1, work 80 sc evenly across the edge of the ribbing, turn. Rows 2-10 (Text Section): Work in tapestry crochet (sc) following your custom lettering chart for ‘SAUDI ARABIA’ and ‘KSART’ in CC (White). Carry the unused yarn along the inside. Rows 11-35 (Palm Tree & Geometric Section): Following the central motif, work the middle 24 sts in the palm tree pattern using CC, while keeping the side stitches in MC, incorporating the small triangle geometric accents on the sides of the palm tree. Rows 36-45 (Top Chevron Border): Introduce the geometric triangle motifs near the top bust using CC. Work decreases at the sides for armhole shaping: Bind off/sl st over 5 sts at the start of Row 36 and Row 37, then decrease 1 st at each end of every row for 4 rows.

Neckline & Straps:

Row 46: To split for the neckline and straps, work across the first 12 sts (Left Strap), leave the center 36 sts unworked, and join a new ball of yarn to work the remaining 12 sts (Right Strap). Work each strap separately in MC for 20 rows, or until desired strap length is achieved. Join to the Back Panel at the shoulders.

Back Panel:

Repeat the same process as the Front Panel, but work entirely in MC (Green) without the tapestry colorwork, or replicate the geometric border for a symmetrical look.

Assembly & Edging:

Sew the side seams of the front and back panels together using a yarn needle and mattress stitch. Join MC to the neckline. Work a round of sc all around the neckline. Change to CC and work a decorative scalloped trim: *sl st, skip 1 st, 5 dc in next st, skip 1 st, sl st* repeat around. Repeat this scalloped trim for the armholes and the bottom hem for a beautifully polished finish.
