Materials

• Chenille yarn in Light Blue (approx. 100g)
• Chenille yarn in Pale Yellow (approx. 30g)
• Chenille yarn in Light Pink (approx. 30g)
• Small amounts of Yellow yarn (for star)
• Small amounts of Orange-Yellow yarn (for rose)
• Small amounts of Pink yarn (for heart)
• Black embroidery floss (for smile)
• Light Pink embroidery floss (for blush)
• Safety eyes (10-12mm)
• Crochet hook (4.0mm or 4.5mm, depending on yarn weight and desired density)
• Yarn needle

Instructions

This pattern is worked in separate panels that are then sewn together. We’ll start with the main pouch body, then the inner pages, and finally the appliques and facial features.

Main Pouch Body (Light Blue – Make 2 panels for front/back, 1 long strip for sides/bottom)

Front and Back Panels (Make 2)

• Row 1: Ch 21. Hdc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. (20 hdc)
• Rows 2-16: Ch 1, turn. Hdc in each st across. (20 hdc)
• At the end of Row 16, ch 1 and sc evenly around the entire panel, placing 3 sc in each corner for neat turning. Sl st to first sc to join. Fo.

Side and Bottom Strip (Make 1)

• Row 1: Ch 6. Hdc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. (5 hdc)
• Rows 2-60: Ch 1, turn. Hdc in each st across. (5 hdc)
• Fo, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Inner Pages (Pale Yellow, Light Pink – Make 1 of each color)

• Row 1: Ch 18. Hdc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. (17 hdc)
• Rows 2-13: Ch 1, turn. Hdc in each st across. (17 hdc)
• Fo, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Small Appliques

Star (Yellow Yarn)

• Rnd 1: Start with a magic ring. Ch 2, 10 hdc into MR. Sl st to join. (10 hdc)
• Points: *Ch 2, dc in same st, ch 2, sl st in same st. Skip 1 st, sl st in next st.* Repeat from * to * 4 more times for 5 points. Fo, leave tail for sewing.

Rose (Orange-Yellow Yarn)

• Row 1: Ch 20. (Dc in 3rd ch from hook, ch 1, dc in same ch), *skip 1 ch, (dc in next ch, ch 1, dc in same ch)*. Repeat from * to * to end of chain.
• Row 2: Ch 2, turn. Work 5-6 dc into each ch-1 space from previous row.
• Fo, leave a long tail. Roll the strip tightly from one end to form a rose shape, sewing the bottom edge to secure.

Heart (Pink Yarn)

• Rnd 1: Start with a magic ring. Ch 2, (3 tr, 3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc, 3 tr), ch 2, sl st in MR. Pull ring tight. Fo, leave tail for sewing.

Assembly

• 1. Attach Side/Bottom Strip: Take one Light Blue Front/Back Panel. Starting at one side of the panel (about 2-3 rows down from a corner), sew the long edge of the Side/Bottom Strip around three sides (side, bottom, other side) of the panel using the long tail and yarn needle. Ensure corners are neat.
• 2. Attach Facial Features: On the front panel (the one the strip is attached to), insert safety eyes symmetrically. Embroider the smile with black embroidery floss and the blushes with pink embroidery floss.
• 3. Attach Appliques: Sew the Yellow Star, Orange-Yellow Rose, and Pink Heart appliques onto the front panel, referring to the image for placement.
• 4. Complete Pouch Body: Attach the second Light Blue Front/Back Panel to the remaining long edge of the Side/Bottom Strip, sewing securely around the three sides.
• 5. Attach Inner Pages: Center the Pale Yellow and Light Pink inner panels between the front and back pouch panels. Stack them (yellow then pink). Sew them securely along one side edge to the inside of the main pouch body, creating hinged ‘pages’.
• 6. Create Closure Tab: With Light Blue yarn, ch 8. Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. (7 sc) Fo, leaving a tail. Fold this tab in half. On one side of the main pouch body, sew one end of the folded tab securely into the seam, leaving a small loop extending. This loop will serve as a closure. You may optionally add a small button on the opposite side of the pouch for the loop to secure around.
• 7. Finishing: Weave in all remaining ends.
