Materials

• Sport/DK weight yarn in Red (main color)
• Sport/DK weight yarn in Yellow (stripes, trim)
• Sport/DK weight yarn in Blue (toe, heel)
• Sport/DK weight yarn in White (laces)
• Embroidery floss or thin black yarn (for crest details)
• 2.0-2.5mm crochet hook (or size to achieve tight stitches)
• Tapestry needle
• Stuffing material
• Keychain ring

Abbreviations

• ch: chain
• sc: single crochet
• sl st: slip stitch
• inc: increase (2 sc in one stitch)
• dec: decrease (sc 2 stitches together)
• BLO: back loop only
• FO: fasten off

• dc: double crochet
• bobble: 3-dc bobble (Yarn over, insert hook into st, yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over, pull through 2 loops) 3 times in the same stitch. Yarn over, pull through all 4 loops on hook.

Instructions

This pattern is worked in continuous rounds unless otherwise specified. Use a stitch marker to mark the first stitch of each round.

SOLE (Red Yarn)

• Rnd 1: Ch 8. Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 5 chs, 3 sc in last ch. Work on other side of chain: sc in next 5 chs, 2 sc in last ch. (16 sts)
• Rnd 2: Inc, sc in next 5 sts, inc 3 times, sc in next 5 sts, inc 2 times. (22 sts)
• Rnd 3: Sc in each st around. (22 sts)
• Rnd 4: (Sc in next 10 sts, inc) Rep 2 times. (24 sts)
• Rnd 5: Sc in each st around. (24 sts)
• Sl st to next st and FO.

LOWER TRIM (Yellow Yarn)

• Rnd 6: Attach Yellow yarn in BLO of Rnd 5. Sc in each st around in BLO. (24 sts)
• Sl st to next st and FO.

BOOT BODY

Section 1: Main Boot (Red Yarn)

• Rnd 7: Attach Red yarn in the remaining front loops of Rnd 5. Sc in each st around. (24 sts)
• Rnd 8-9: Sc in each st around. (24 sts)

Section 2: Toe Cap (Blue Yarn)

• Rnd 10: Switch to Blue yarn. Sc in next 8 sts (this forms the toe). Switch back to Red yarn. Sc in next 16 sts. (24 sts)
• Rnd 11: With Blue yarn: (dec, sc in next 2 sts) Rep 2 times. With Red yarn: (dec, sc in next 2 sts) Rep 4 times. (18 sts)

Section 3: Upper Boot (Red Yarn)

• Rnd 12: With Red yarn: Sc in next 2 sts, dec. Sc in next 6 sts, dec. Sc in next 6 sts, dec. (15 sts)
• Rnd 13: Sc in each st around. (15 sts)

Section 4: Heel Counter (Blue Yarn)

• Rnd 14: Sc in next 10 sts (heel area, start counting from the back/heel). Switch to Blue yarn. Sc in next 5 sts. (15 sts)
• Rnd 15: With Red yarn: Sc in next 10 sts. With Blue yarn: Sc in next 5 sts. (15 sts)
• Rnd 16: With Red yarn: Sc in next 10 sts. With Blue yarn: Sc in next 5 sts. Sl st to first st and FO. (15 sts)

Stuff the boot firmly at this stage.

TONGUE (Red Yarn)

• Ch 4.
• Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 2 chs. Ch 1, turn. (3 sts)
• Row 2-4: Sc in each st across. Ch 1, turn. (3 sts)
• FO, leaving a long tail for sewing.

LACES (White Yarn)

• Cut two strands of White yarn, about 6 inches long each.
• Using a tapestry needle, weave one strand horizontally across the top front of the boot (above the toe cap) through stitches on Rnd 13, creating a small loop.
• Repeat with the second strand, slightly above the first.
• Tie small knots on either side to secure the ‘laces’ in place. Trim excess.

STRIPES (Yellow Yarn – Make 6 small pieces, 3 for each side)

• Ch 3.
• Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next ch. Ch 1, turn. (2 sts)
• Row 2-3: Sc in each st across. Ch 1, turn. (2 sts)
• FO, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Sew 3 yellow stripes vertically onto each side of the red boot body, evenly spaced, between the toe cap and the heel counter.

STUDS (Red Yarn – Make 6-8 bobbles)

• Using Red yarn, insert hook into the bottom of the Sole (Rnd 1 or 2). Create a 3-dc bobble stitch.
• Rep 5-7 more times, evenly spacing the bobbles across the sole of the boot.
• Weave in ends.

EMBROIDERED CREST AND ‘ESP’

• Using black embroidery floss/thin yarn, embroider the outline of the Spanish crest (shield shape) on the red side panel of the boot, above the yellow stripes.
• Fill in small details of the crest with yellow and red yarn using a tapestry needle.
• Underneath the crest, embroider the letters ‘ESP’ using black embroidery floss.

FINISHING

• Sew the Tongue inside the top front opening of the boot, just behind the laces.
• Weave in all remaining loose ends.
• Attach the keychain ring to the top back of the heel counter using your tapestry needle to secure it firmly.
