Materials

• Sport/DK weight yarn in White
• Sport/DK weight yarn in Red
• Sport/DK weight yarn in Black (small amount for studs)

Instructions

Sole (Red Yarn):

• Ch 10.
• Rnd 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 7 ch, 3 sc in last ch. Working on the other side of the ch: sc in next 7 ch, 2 sc in last ch. (20 sts)
• Rnd 2: Inc, sc in next 7, inc x 3, sc in next 7, inc x 2. (26 sts)
• Rnd 3: Sc in BLO around. (26 sts) – This creates a defined edge for the upper.
• Using black yarn and a tapestry needle, embroider small dots on the sole to resemble studs.

Shoe Upper – Base (Red & White Yarn):

• Switch to Red yarn.
• Rnd 4-5: Sc around. (26 sts)
• Switch to White yarn.
• Rnd 6-9: Sc around. (26 sts)

Shaping the Toe & Lace Opening (White Yarn):

• Rnd 10: Sc 8, dec, sc 6, dec, sc 8. (24 sts)
• Rnd 11: Sc 7, dec, sc 6, dec, sc 7. (22 sts)
• Now, we’ll create the opening for the laces. This part will be worked in rows, leaving a gap for the tongue.
• Row 1 (Right side): Ch 1, sc in first 5 sts (these are the side eyelet sts). Turn.
• Row 2-4: Ch 1, sc in 5 sts. Turn. Fasten off.
• Skip 6 sts (for the tongue area) from where the last row ended. Rejoin white yarn in the next st.
• Row 1 (Left side): Ch 1, sc in next 5 sts. Turn.
• Row 2-4: Ch 1, sc in 5 sts. Turn. Fasten off.

Tongue (White Yarn):

• Ch 5.
• Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 3 ch. (4 sc) Ch 1, turn.
• Row 2-6: Sc in 4 sts. Ch 1, turn.
• Sl st around the entire edge of the tongue for a neat finish. Leave a long tail for sewing.

Heel Closure & Cuff (White & Red Yarn):

• Stuff the shoe lightly with fiberfill.
• Using white yarn, sew the tongue into the opening created in step 3, positioning it centrally.
• Join Red yarn at the back of the shoe, where the two sides of the upper meet.
• Rnd 1: Sc across the back gap, joining the sides to form the heel. (Approx. 12-14 sc, adjust to close the gap neatly). Continue sc around the top edge of the shoe opening, including the raw edges of the lace sections and the tongue. (Total sts around the entire opening should be around 30-34, ensure it looks even).
• Rnd 2: Sl st around the entire top opening of the shoe for a clean, finished cuff edge. Fasten off.

Embellishments:

• Red Stripes: Using red yarn and a tapestry needle, embroider thin diagonal stripes onto the white sides of the shoe, mimicking the pattern in the image.
• Austrian Flag & "AUSTRIA" Text: On one side of the white upper, embroider a small Austrian flag (red, white, red horizontal stripes). Below it, backstitch "AUSTRIA" in red yarn.
• Laces: Cut two 8-inch pieces of white yarn. Thread one piece through the eyelet holes on one side and the other piece through the holes on the opposite side. Tie a small bow at the top, allowing the ends to dangle slightly.
