Materials

• Sport weight cotton yarn (Dark Brown, Tan, Golden Yellow, White, Grass Green, Light Grey)
• 2.0mm crochet hook
• Pair of 4mm black safety eyes
• Polyester fiberfill stuffing
• Tapestry needle and scissors
• Assorted gold beads, pearls, and a tiny toy crown for the treasure
• Plastic canvas or cardboard to stiffen the chest

Instructions

Eagle Head & Body:

Start with Tan yarn to create the top of the head.

• Rnd 1: 6 sc in MR (6)
• Rnd 2: 6 inc (12)
• Rnd 3: (1 sc, inc) x 6 (18)
• Rnd 4-6: sc around (18)
• Change to White yarn.
• Rnd 7-8: sc around (18)
• Attach safety eyes between Rnds 5 and 6.
• Rnd 9: (2 sc, inc) x 6 (24)
• Rnd 10 (Collar): FLO (ch 3, sl st in next) around to create feather tufts.
• Rnd 11: Working in BLO of Rnd 9, change to Dark Brown. (3 sc, inc) x 6 (30)
• Rnd 12-18: sc around (30)
• Stuff the head and body firmly.
• Rnd 19: (3 sc, dec) x 6 (24)
• Rnd 20: (2 sc, dec) x 6 (18)

• Rnd 22: 6 dec (6). Fasten off and weave in ends.

Beak & Feet (Golden Yellow):

Beak: Ch 5, sc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc in next, dc in next, tr in last. Sew to the center of the white head area between the eyes.

Feet (make 2): Ch 6, *sl st in 2nd ch, sl st in next 2, ch 3 (claw)*; repeat to make three claws. Join together and sew to the base of the eagle body.

Wings (Make 2 – Multi-colored):

Start with Tan yarn, change to White, then Dark Brown to mimic layers.

• Row 1: Ch 12. Working along the chain: 11 sc, ch 1, turn.
• Row 2: 11 sc, ch 3, turn.
• Row 3 (White): Work in BLO to create feather steps: (sc, ch 2, sc in next st) across.
• Row 4 (Dark Brown): Join on the opposite side, ch 15, and work double crochets into previous rows to form long flight feathers. Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing to the shoulders.

Treasure Chest (Brown):

Crochet a small rectangular box by making 6 flat panels (Bottom, 4 Sides, Lid) or a single folded piece.

• Base Panel: Ch 12. Work 8 rows of 11 sc.
• Walls: Work sc around the Base Panel in BLO for 8 rounds. Reinforce inside with plastic canvas.
• Lid Panel: Ch 12. Work 12 rows of 11 sc. Curve slightly and sew the back edge to the box to act as a hinge.

Grassy Base (Green):

• Rnd 1: 6 sc in MR (6)
• Rnd 2: 6 inc (12)

• Rnd 4: (2 sc, inc) x 6 (24)
• Rnd 5: (3 sc, inc) x 6 (30)

• Rnd 8: sc around (42). Fasten off.

Assembly:

Sew the treasure chest onto the green base. Fill the chest with fiberfill, then glue or sew your gold beads, pearls, and miniature crown inside so they spill over the front edge. Sew the eagle’s feet directly onto the lid of the chest. Attach the wings securely to the eagle’s sides, positioning them wide open as if landing.
