Materials

• Sport weight cotton yarn in Brown, Light Blue, White, and Yellow
• 2.25 mm (B-1) crochet hook
• Metal keychain ring with lobster clasp
• Fiberfill stuffing (minimal)
• Yarn needle and scissors

Instructions

Main Backpack Body:

Start with Brown yarn.

• Round 1: MR, 6 sc (6)
• Round 2: inc in each st (12)
• Round 3: (sc, inc) x6 (18)
• Round 4: (2 sc, inc) x6 (24)
• Round 5: In BLO, sc in each st around (24)

Switch to Light Blue yarn.

• Rounds 6-10: sc in each st around (24)

Switch to White yarn.

• Rounds 11-15: sc in each st around (24)
• Round 16: (2 sc, dec) x6 (18). Stuff the backpack lightly with fiberfill.
• Round 17: (sc, dec) x6 (12)
• Round 18: dec x6 (6). Fasten off, weave in ends.

Backpack Flap (Light Blue):

• Row 1: Ch 7, starting in 2nd ch from hook, sc 6, turn (6)
• Rows 2-5: ch 1, sc 6, turn (6)
• Row 6: ch 1, dec, sc 2, dec, turn (4)
• Row 7: ch 1, sc 4 (4). Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Attach a small decorative Yellow button to the front-center of the flap. Sew the flat end of the flap to the upper-back (White section) of the backpack body, folding the flap forward over the front.

Front Zipper Pocket (Light Blue):

• Row 1: Ch 7, starting in 2nd ch from hook, sc 6, turn (6)
• Rows 2-4: ch 1, sc 6, turn (6). Fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing.

Using Yellow yarn, embroider a straight stitch horizontally across the top section of the pocket to mimic a zipper, adding a small loop stitch to resemble a zipper pull. Sew the pocket securely to the front Light Blue section of the backpack body.

Back Straps (Make 2 – Light Blue & White):

• Row 1: With Light Blue yarn, ch 15. Working in the back bumps of the chain, sc in each ch across.
• Row 2: Attach White yarn and work sl st along the outer edge of the strap to create a striped look. Fasten off.

Sew the top of both straps to the top-back of the backpack, and the bottoms of the straps to the lower-back.

Top Handle Loop & Assembly (Light Blue):

• Row 1: Ch 6, sc 5. Fasten off.

Sew the loop to the top-center of the backpack between the two straps. Finally, attach your metal keychain ring and lobster clasp directly to the top handle loop.
