Materials

• Sport weight yarn in Medium Blue, Cream, and White
• 2.25 mm (Size B-1) crochet hook
• Dark blue embroidery floss and embroidery needle
• Polyester fiberfill stuffing
• Metal keyring
• Yarn needle and scissors

Instructions

Step 1: The Pages (Cream Yarn)

We will create a small 3D block to represent the pages of the book.

• Row 1: Ch 9, starting in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each of the next 8 ch. Turn. (8 sts)
• Row 2-18: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn. (8 sts)
• Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Fold the piece in half to form a thick rectangular block (9 rows on each side). Sew the sides together, stuffing very lightly with fiberfill before closing completely to maintain a flat, neat book-page shape.

Step 2: The Book Cover (Blue Yarn)

The cover is worked in flat rows and wrapped around the cream page block.

• Row 1: Ch 11, starting in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each of the next 10 ch. Turn. (10 sts)
• Row 2-24: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn. (10 sts)
• Do not fasten off. Crochet a border around the entire rectangular cover by making 1 sc in each stitch and row end around, with 3 sc in each corner. Join with a sl st to the first st. Fasten off, leaving a long tail for assembly.

Step 3: The Cover Label (White Yarn)

• Ch 7, starting in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 5 ch, 3 sc in the last ch. Work along the opposite side of the chain: sc in next 4 ch, 2 sc in the last chain. Join with a sl st to first sc. Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.
• Using dark blue embroidery floss, embroider the word ‘READ’ carefully onto the white label.

Step 4: Assembly & Embroidery

• Sew the white ‘READ’ label onto the right half of the blue cover (the front cover).
• Using white yarn or embroidery floss, stitch vertical lines or the word ‘BOOK’ along the spine (the center section of the blue cover).
• Position the cream page block inside the blue cover. Secure the pages to the cover by sewing along the inner top and bottom edges, ensuring the blue cover wraps snugly around the pages.
• Keychain Loop: Attach blue yarn to the top corner of the spine. Ch 8, sl st back into the same stitch to form a loop. Fasten off and weave in all remaining ends. Attach your metal keyring to the loop.
