Materials

• Fingering weight cotton yarn in Royal Blue, Off-White, Pure White, Peach, Orange, and Grey
• 1.5 mm crochet hook
• 6mm black safety eyes
• Polyester fiberfill stuffing
• Clear plastic mini-dome (approx 15mm) for the helmet visor
• Keychain ring and lobster clasp set
• Yarn needle and scissors

Instructions

Whale Body (Blue & White):

Using Blue yarn, start with a magic ring.

• Rnd 1: 6 sc in MR (6)
• Rnd 2: inc in each st (12)
• Rnd 3: [sc, inc] x 6 (18)
• Rnd 4: [2 sc, inc] x 6 (24)
• Rnd 5: [3 sc, inc] x 6 (30)
• Rnd 6-12: sc in each st (30)
• Rnd 13: [3 sc, dec] x 6 (24)
• Rnd 14: sc in each st (24)
• Rnd 15: [2 sc, dec] x 6 (18)
• Rnd 16-18: sc in each st (18)
• Rnd 19: [sc, dec] x 6 (12)
• Rnd 20: [dec] x 6 (6)

Fasten off and weave in ends. Attach safety eyes between rounds 8 and 9. Crochet a flat White belly patch by making a chain of 10, working in oval rounds for 3 rounds, and sew it to the bottom half of the blue body.

Fins & Tail (Blue):

Dorsal Fin: MR, 4 sc; [sc, inc] x 2 (6); [2 sc, inc] x 2 (8). Sew to the top of the back.

Pectoral Fins (Make 2): MR, 6 sc; [sc, inc] x 3 (9); sc around (9). Flatten and sew to the sides.

Tail Flukes: MR, 6 sc; [sc, inc] x 3 (9); [2 sc, inc] x 3 (12); dec around (6). Fasten off. Make two, sew them together and attach to the rear of the body.

Astronaut Head & Helmet:

Head: Using Peach yarn, MR 6 -> 12 -> 18 -> sc around for 3 rounds -> dec to 12 -> dec to 6. Stuff lightly.

Helmet: Using White yarn, MR 6 -> 12 -> 18 -> 24 -> 30. Work 4 rounds of 30. To create the face opening, work 12 sc, ch 8 (skip 8 sts), 10 sc. Work 2 more rounds of 30 over the chains. Slip the peach head inside. Glue the clear mini-dome over the opening.

Astronaut Body & Assembly:

Legs (Make 2): Start with Orange. MR 6 sc. Change to White, work 4 rounds of 6 sc. Join legs with 2 ch, work around both legs and chains (16 sc). Work 6 rounds of 16 sc. Stuff body. Sew helmet to body. Attach tiny white arms, a rectangular white backpack, and sew the astronaut onto the whale’s back. Attach keychain ring to the top of the helmet.
