Materials

• Fingering weight yarn (Type 1) in White, Peach/Beige, Blue, and Red
• 1.25 mm crochet hook
• Two 4mm safety eyes
• Black embroidery floss for the smile and details
• Polyester fiberfill stuffing
• Yarn needle and scissors
• Keychain ring with lobster clasp

Abbreviations

• inc – increase (2 sc in one stitch)
• dec – decrease (sc 2 stitches together)
• BLO – back loops only
• FLO – front loops only

Instructions

Head (in Peach/Beige yarn):

• Rnd 1: Start with 6 sc in a magic ring (6)
• Rnd 2: inc in each st around (12)
• Rnd 3: (1 sc, inc) x 6 (18)
• Rnd 4: (2 sc, inc) x 6 (24)
• Rnd 5-9: sc in each st around (24)
• Rnd 10: (2 sc, dec) x 6 (18)
• Insert safety eyes between Rnds 7 and 8, leaving about 4 stitches of space between them. Embroider a tiny mouth with black thread. Stuff the head firmly.
• Rnd 11: (1 sc, dec) x 6 (12)
• Rnd 12: dec x 6 (6)
• Fasten off and weave in ends.

Helmet (in White yarn):

• Rnd 1: Start with 6 sc in a magic ring (6)
• Rnd 2: inc in each st around (12)
• Rnd 3: (1 sc, inc) x 6 (18)
• Rnd 4: (2 sc, inc) x 6 (24)
• Rnd 5: (3 sc, inc) x 6 (30)
• Rnd 6-12: sc in each st around (30)
• To create the open face shield portion, we will now work in rows back and forth to leave space for the face.
• Row 13: ch 1, turn, sc in next 20 sts (leave remaining 10 sts unworked for face opening)
• Row 14-18: ch 1, turn, sc across (20)
• Row 19: ch 10 (to bridge the gap), join to the other side to resume working in the round.
• Rnd 20: sc around entire neck opening. Fasten off, leaving a long tail to sew the helmet to the body. Insert the finished head into the helmet opening.

Legs & Body (in White, Blue, and Red yarn):

• Legs (Make 2):
• Start with Blue yarn.
• Rnd 1: 6 sc in magic ring (6)
• Rnd 2: inc in each st around (12)
• Rnd 3: FLO sc around (12)
• Switch to Red yarn.
• Rnd 4: sc around (12)
• Switch to White yarn.
• Rnd 5-9: sc around (12)
• Fasten off the first leg. Do not fasten off the second leg; proceed to join.
• Joining the Legs & Body:
• Rnd 10: ch 2, join to the first leg with a sc. sc around first leg, sc in the 2 chains, sc around second leg, sc in the 2 chains (28 sts total)
• Rnd 11-13: sc around in White (28)
• Switch to Blue yarn.
• Rnd 14: sc around (28)
• Switch to White yarn.
• Rnd 15-18: sc around (28)
• Rnd 19: (5 sc, dec) x 4 (24)
• Rnd 20: (2 sc, dec) x 6 (18)
• Stuff the body firmly. Fasten off, leaving a tail for assembly.

Arms (Make 2 – in White, Blue, and Red yarn):

• Start with White.

• Rnd 3-4: sc around (10)
• Switch to Blue.
• Rnd 5: sc around (10)
• Switch to White.
• Rnd 6-8: sc around (10)
• Switch to Red.
• Rnd 9: sc around (10)
• Switch to White.
• Rnd 10-12: sc around (10)
• Flatten and sc across the opening to close. Sew to the sides of the body.

Oxygen Backpack (in White & Blue yarn):

• Start with White.
• Rnd 1: 6 sc in magic ring (6)
• Rnd 2: inc in each st around (12)
• Rnd 3: BLO sc around (12)
• Rnd 4-10: sc around (12)
• Switch to Blue.
• Rnd 11: sc around (12)
• Stuff lightly and sew flat to the back of the astronaut’s spacesuit. Use a chain of white stitches to act as the connector hose from the backpack to the front of the suit.

Assembly and Details:

• Embroider ‘NASA’ on the chest in red/blue and sew a tiny red/blue rectangle flag on the left arm.
• Sew the head/helmet onto the body.
• Create a hanging loop with white yarn at the very top of the helmet and attach the keychain clasp securely.
